Anyone running one?

-Pros/cons
-fuels mileage

I currently have a half ton ford 05', works for me most of the time but want something alittle heavier duty. The heaviest thing I tow is my sled trailer, maybe 6500-7000#. So the need for a diesel isn't necessary, nor do I want to pay the price of one.

had one for a company truck and all i can say is if your looking to get decent mileage it isnt for you. usually empty got 11-13, pulling a 27' enclosed about 6. was a good reliable truck but my 1/2 ton chevy with the 6.2 will outpull that thing any day and probably get the same mileage pulling. just giving my opinion.

From what I've read and heard and from driving/riding in both without owning either, the Ecoboost would probably be a better bet. Both for mileage and actually for towing. Granted it doesn't come in anything but the 1/2 ton, but the tow package is rated for 11,300lbs...

Kind of annoying video, but actually good for those interested in pulling hills. Compares with both the Nissan and 6.2L GM...

I'm on my second 6.2L the first was a 11 f250 regular cab xl 4x4 traded at 31k for a 12 f350 xlt regular cab 4x4 which has 21k on it now. Neither have had any problems. It is used 75% going to the field with parts ect or pulling a 11k to 18k pound trailers or 22k anhydrous tanks. It always has 1000# of fuel and tools in the box. It get between 8 pulling hard and 14 on the highway going for parts empty best conditions. I do have a diesel pickup also which I wouldn't give up for pulling our 9k # fifthwheel in the mountains. For what you are towing it would be plenty of power. They can be a blast to drive empty lots of power that comes on much quicker then a diesel. I plan to stick with them for my service pickup just becAuse of how cheap they are to buy, run, and maintain compared to a diesel.

Had a 2011 crewcab with 6.2.
Pulled like crazy and didn't find it that hard in fuel.
Ordered with 4:30 ratio thou as these engines need rpm .

From what I've read and for what it's worth, Ford is no longer offering the 6.2 in the F150 in 2015. I have driven one empty, never towed with one, and they have good power but fuel mileage empty is poor at around 13-14 and they need to rev like any V-8. Have you looked at an ecoboost at all? I have over 11000 on mine now and get around 15-17 empty with it and it pulls like my 03' duramax. Just got back from Yellowstone pulling a steel 7x27 enclosed and it worked better than I expected. 9 mpg overall (2000 miles round trip) and never lacking in power. Rpm's never exceeded 3000 rpm the whole trip.

I assumed by his comment about a diesel that the OP was planning to step up to a 3/4 - 1 ton but I shouldn't assume. There is a big difference between the half ton and superduty 6.2Ls from what I read some were awhile back not sure if that's true. I always figured the 6.2L was one of Fords strong points in the super duty because its the base engine and from my experience beats the GM 6.0L and Dodge Hemi in the torque and towing dept. Now what I think would be a blast is a EcoBoost 6.2L should be good for 485hp and 500ft lb maybe not so eco though.

Yep looking to get back into a 3/4 ton.

Had one a few yrs ago but it was unfortunately a 6.0 L. Nothing but a money pit. Decided the diesel is not needed for what I do now but the heavier duty truck is.

Ok guys finally decided to get the 6.2. Just picked up a 15' a month ago, the question is what can a guy do to help get the most out of the truck as far as power, and effiencey without affecting any warranty. Its the first truck i've ever owed with factory warranty.

Have a 13 F250 Ext cab 4wd, 6.2, 3.73 gears. Company work truck.
It is as solid as any F250, obviously. I have had no problems so far in 20k miles.
Fuel mileage and towing power though are not impressive.
It'll drop to 3rd gear to hold highway speed at sea level on slight grades with a 4k enc sled trailer. Pull 6% or greater and it's a 2nd gear hero all the way to the top to keep 55 mph.
Mileage is 11-12mpg commuting mostly highway. Towing, it may as well be an old carbed big block. 7.5-8 mpg towing a 4klb enclosed sled trailer.
Had an 11 F150 5.0 before this truck, same configuration and gears.
It got better mileage empty and towing and felt like it pulled harder when towing too.
If I was getting a Ford gasser, I'd stick with a 150 with the Eco or 5.0. Plus a stock F250 doesn't have much for rear springs anyway. Sort of like a heavy half ton. And it's in a 15 year old chassis that is about to get redesigned.

should of went with the GM 6.2 :)

Awesome power, 22-25mpg (have got as high as 26.7) on the hwy running 80mph. 13 mpg towing my 24ft enclosed trailer at 75-80.

I'm waving the bs flag all over this. My buddies 5.3's don't get that kinda mileage.

It might be the worst all around truck, but I would sure like to see the kind of fuel mileage they got with it. 13.6 mpg with a load? I havet even got that empty yet.

They must be driving down the same magic rainbow as srxsrule. :face-icon-small-ton
