6.2 Ecotec3

Good info here guys:

6.2 looks like a great option. Only downside is you have to get the top of the line trim options to get it. $53000 is not a cheap 1/2 ton!

I don't know why anyone would buy a 5.3 over the 6.2 other then to save money.

Watching the videos, the Ecoboost low end torque is still advantageous towing. They shift less and can run less RPM.

If you read the pickuptrucks.com dyno numbers, the 2.7 Ecoboost makes 4 more ft lbs of torque and at 1000 RPM less then the 6.2! Very impressive IMO.

I don't think a guy can go wrong with an Ecoboost or a 6.2, but the turbos definitely help at elevation and add low end torque.

Just my 2 cents.

Something is wrong with their dyno if the GM 6.2 lost 114 ft-lbs of torque on that dyno to what it is rated at and the Ford only lost 27 ft-lbs. Makes zero sense.

I don't know or care what any dyno says.
The 6.2 is a great engine. Not good but great.
If you aren't towing, it's every bit as good as an Ecoboost.
That being said, hook on a significant load to either and the Ecoboost will do anything the 6.2 ever dreamt of........at half the RPM and without the constant downshifting.

Perhaps the 6.2 is a little overrated on torque and the little 2.7 Eco is underrated?

Also, the Ford does not have a 1:1 gear in the tranny so that may change numbers slightly.

Also, GM only has a 3.23 rear end vs 3.73 in the Ford

If the dyno didn't account for the rear end ratio then that would be exactly what I am saying. Any real dyno will account for that.

Just picked up my Denali 1500 yesterday.....so far very impressed. Tons of power and the 8 speed tranny is incredible.

Premium Fuel?

Just watched a You tube video comparing the 5.3 to the 6.2. Trailering mileage on their real world loop was basically the same but when he was fueling the 6.2 he mentioned it requires premium fuel.

Is that true?

It says recommended, but we didn't put any in on our trip out and back. 2000+ miles.
Or course, it wasn't my truck.

I put premium in my 6.2... just not worth it to run anything less in my opinion. Does nice towing, its a denali xl vs my ecoboost in my house and I perfer the eco, both get almost the exact same millage when towing the same trailer, same conditions, same load.... Just like the Eco a bit more, especially here in our high altitude in CO

Android Auto

The Android Auto website says that the 2016 GMC Sierra has Android Auto along with Apple Carplay.

Does that exclude the Denali? Or did the vehicle I look at need service to update the computer on the truck?

Thanks.

I tow with an Ecoboost and I will agree with most of this statement. Pulling a trailer with the ecoboost is awesome, however slowing the trailer down the 6.2 will shine. A 3.5L V6 just doesn't have much for compression braking!

6.2l

I have 800 miles on my one week old Denali 6.2l 1500. The trip computer is showing 21 mpg on both of my jaunts to the lake and back. 100 miles up with 1/3 yrd. gravel and some retaining blocks in a small utility trailer and back the 100 miles empty.

No bed cover yet and tailgate was up.

Sure glad it's not like the horror stories of the 6.0l.

Might hook up the 24' box, 5' V, 7-1/2' wide trailer with 5 sleds in it for a little test drive. I'm at 900' elevation so not a very good test compared to out west at elevation and no passes in MN to test either.

Replaced a 2004 Suburban 1500 with coils and air bags in the back. I can barely tell I am towing a trailer so the leaf springs are definitely an improvement.

Why did they drop the front torsion bars and go back to coil springs? For the magnetic shocks?

Still two grease fittings, but they are on the tie rod ends, easy t get to.

Oil pan has a very small stamped metal section that mounts on the larger aluminum casting upper oil pan. Must be to allow fitment in the various vehicles the engine is used in? 8 qts of oil.

Any changes they made will be for the Magnetic Ride control. How do you like the ride? The 6.2 is turning into a unicorn. Damn near impossible to get. GM can't produce them fast enough. They should really consider opening a second facility.

19 avg mpg on my Sierra Denali. Quiet, rides great, plenty of power, 8 speed is incredible. So far no regrets.

I would have bought a chevy with the 6.2 if the dealer could find an LT all star package with a 6.2 in a color I liked. After pulling trailers out west, i'm glad I bought a 3.5 ecoboost.

Coming off the 04 Suburban with coils in the rear I notice the pickup loses it's footing in the rear a little when you hit a single stutter bump, like on the freeway, especially if you are on a corner. Maybe it's just a function of leaf springs in the back and no weight in the box.

Why not the Nissan with the new 5.0 Cummins? Shy of hp some, but much higher tq ratings. Shoot, winding out
second and first gear some of you guys are saying seems hard as heck on equipment. Sounds more like a job for a diesel than a gasser of any sort...
