6.0 L fuel economy?

just looking at buying a 04 GMC 2500 4x4 crew cab.
can anyone tell me what kind of fuel economy these trucks get pulling a 4 place enclosed trailer and pulling nothing at all ? any info. would be appreciated thanks.

I have had 2 trucks with this motor and would not recommend it.

2002 GMC lifted w/35's 3.73 gears
8-10mpg driving around
6-8mpg pulling enclosed 27ft.

2006 Chevrolet stock 4.10 gears
10-12mpg driving around
8-10mpg pulling trailer

I get 10-12 around town, 13-15 on the highway empty. I did get 16 pulling a 2 place open last year, but was taking it easy. I have a four place enclosed but bought it over the summer and haven't made it out yet to check mileage. The trailer is overbuilt and the truck feels it back there so I think my mileage will really drop. I pulled my in-laws 26' jet boat this summer and got around 10. I've been happy with the truck so far and for the amount of time I spend pulling it does an adequite job, if pulling was more of a priority I'd be driving a d-max.

My old man has a '00 2500 Ext. Cab 4x4 short box with a 6.0L. I have an '01 2500HD crew cab 4X4 s/box with the 8.1L and Allison tranny. My 8.1 gets almost identical mileage as the 6.0L whether loaded or empty and my 8.1 will do circles around it. I don't think you could give me a 6.0L (well, okay, I'd take it). The 8.1's are a bit tougher to find, but I'd hold out for one if you want to stick to gas.

i second this, my brother has an 03 2500hd with the 8.1 and the alison and he averages 12-13 mpg around town and on one of the long trips he got 16 on the freeway with three bikes in the bed and all our camping gear. i just think it makes more sense to have the 8.1 over the 6.0 cuz the mileage is just as good but you get alot more power.

I should mention I have a Hypertech Programmer and loaded the 87 octane setting. I can consistently get mid teens for mileage on long highway trips unloaded, depending on the wind. I find mine gets better mileage with the cruise set at 80mph rather than the speed limit. A customer of mine has an 8.1 as well and he claims the same thing with his. I will admit it isn't great as a grocery getter and short drives back and forth to work. But for what I need a truck for, it works great and there's no way I can justify a diesel, especially at current pump prices.

I have an '07 1500HD with the 6.0. I get anywhere from 14 to 16 back and forth to work, 13-14 in winter with studs and auto 4x4, and 10-13 pulling a 2-place open and a sled in the bed.

wow, pulling an enclosed trailer with 35's and 3.73's, no wonder you didn't like that truck ...

That's what I did and haven't looked back.

I didn't want a diesel, but I didn't think going from a 5.3L to a 6.0L would be worth me spending the money on a new truck...

I wound up finding a 2005 2500HD LT Ex-Cab Short-Box with the 8.1L/Allison combo with only 29,000 miles on it last month, so I took it.

I get EXACTLY the same miledge towing my enclosed (9 mpg) @ 75 mph as I did towing the same trailer with my 2000 5.3L @ 65 mph (9 mpg) ...

Thus far on the highway unloaded I get between 14 and 15 mpg with it mixed 65/75 driving ... in town I get about 10 with it it seems :(

Only thing I don't like about this truck is the small *** fuel tank. I really wish it had like a 44 gallon tank, so if you can find one I'd highly recommend getting the long bed so you can at least get the 34 gallon tank.

We came across a 2500 avalanche with an 8.1, but haven't seen any 2500 quad cabs with the 8.1, just the 6.0. but thats good to know thank you. I may start looking at the 8.1 if the fuel aconomy is going to be similar.

The 8.1 in the Avalanche doesn't have the Allison tranny. insaneboltrounder/sjohns on the forum had one. The 3/4 ton crew cab 8.1 is real hard to find up here.
