509 Goggle question

I got a new set of 509 goggles last month, and I have rode with them four times now and without fail in every condition they fog up on me. I rode at -22 and fog, I rode at 28 and fog, no matter what I do. My old smith goggles did a way better job. I read tons of reviews and people said these goggles never fogged. I really like the look and fit of the goggles so what can I do to fix this problem?

X2 - like the fit and looks also, but have a fog issue also, more than my old Oakleys. Is there something I am missing too?

cut a fresh spud in half and rub the spud oil on the goggle lenses..works great...used it on all my smiths/oaklys/nortons/etc ettc..never fails me..

I have ridden with my new 09 509's twice now in below zero conditions. I have never fogged them up unless I am just sitting. They have great airflow when moving but if you can't get a perfect seal (which never happens) your breath will fog any goggle.

I wish I could put my breath deflector back in but the goggles are too big. I am still undetermined whether I am completely satisfied yet. Definitely better than my old Oakleys though.

There is a balaclava with a built in breath deflector. I was going to try one of them but now that I put $45 for a Klim one I don't need another one.

Never ending battle my friend.

Make sure the plastic is punched all the way out on the top vent holes, I just bought a pair for myself and wife and mine had 3 of the vent holes still plugged and hers had all of them. Once we did that no fogging issues.

Are you guys using the supplied nosemask? It makes a big difference in preventing fog by deflecting your hot breath away from the lens

I tried mine out for the first time this weekend to, and both pairs fogged pretty quick, took a bit but before long couldn't see a thing. The second pair I took off everytime I stoped, didn't really help. For the first while they would fog a bit, then clear up and kept repeating and getting worse. Had the nosepiece on both pairs. Not really sure what's wrong. Two people I was with had no breath deflectors of any kind or nosepiece and not a hint of fogging

They need to seal around your face, I had to trim the foam on mine to keep them sealed. No biggie I like them way better than my crowbars.

love my new gogs. Ive used the all yellow lens.....WORKS KILLER! and the blue chrome ones are really nice in the sun!. never a hint of fog and i am always takin em off and gettin snow in em on em....you know.

Nice gogs!

Im sick of reading threads about fogged goggles! So im gonna let all you in on my precious secret... Smith Phenom Turbo Fan goggles. Iv ridden w/these goggles for a year now and have yet to fog them up. Oh and iv tried, like a 20min dig out with out even taken them off. And im a sweater:D There pretty spendy but think of all the frustration you'll save yourself. Look up smithoptyics.com...your welcome:beer;:beer;

Yes, I think the problem is hot air coming up through the foam not the outside of the lens. If I am moving these goggles are outstanding but still working on the sitting situation.

have last years set and this years, tried them with my new fly helmet, fog up constantely, unless your moving, one thing i did notice, if you breathe through your nose when stopped, they don't fog up as fast.

There is no secret, and there's no special goggles. Wear a baclava with a good breath deflector, goggles that seal around your face and fit your helmet well, and don't wear clothes that make you sweat even more and you'll be fine.

i second removing the plastic on the vents at the top of the lens. the origional and the blue chrome one i ordered had plastic over the vents. once removed, never a fogging issue.

yes, full nose piece. If I am moving there is no problem, but when I stop it is instant fog up. Almost like the nose piece is catching my mouth breath and filtering it up inside the goggles. If I take them off when I stop, no problems..........but that is a PITA.

Ya I am wearing the nosemask too, and I still fog all the time. I am good for like the first 5-10 minutes of riding then I fight it the rest of the ride. I will have to check to see if the plastic holes are punched out on mine.

If you have good seal all the way aroud and you not all sweaty AND you NEVER take them off...your odds are very good that you wont fog.

9 times outta ten if you fog as soon as you stop its on the out side not the inside....wipe then off BUT dont take them off...when you leave they will clear right off.....if they fog on the inside your seal is not good or you getting real hot or sweaty

My 509's didnt fog on the inside all day last saterday while every one elses did...509,smith,oakly .....If you take them off you loose the heat in the lens....but if you so hot your sweating your gonna have a tuff time keeping anything clear.

Luv my 509's especially the new ones with the nose shield..

i've ridden a couple of times so far with mine, temps ranging from 5 to mid 20s. never fogged on while riding. i use the nose mask. i have learned to train my breathing during a strenuous workout so i breathe through my nose while riding for the most part. never fogged up. i'll come to a stop for a couple of minutes and it will barely start fogging up. i'm sure that on those days where it's below zero it will fog up while at a stop, but hey, i just got my quickstrap compatible straps in the mail today from tom! just waiting on my quickstraps now.
