505 with 4-speed?

I just got back from the firelines in washington. I have a little extra money so I am looking at going to a dedicated snow bike. I found an 08 505sx in my price range. The bike is a 4-speed, so I'm not sure how that will work. my last bike was a 450xcw 6-speed. Also found an 09 505xc with a 5-speed, I want the sx for more power I think. Any imput on this woulld be helpful.
Thanks, Chris

XC's work nearly as well as an SX, bigger tank too. The hard parts difference between the XC and SX may only come down to igntion curve in 08/09, cheap and easy to replace. a 5 speed is must, 6 is even better. It's for the roads between play areas. a 4 speed would have you going pretty slow.

Thanks for serving and fighting those fires!

Do not get that bike

DO NOT get that bike. Whatever you do, stay away from that 2008 sx505. My buddy had one last year on a 2013 SX kit and he had problem after problem after problem. Too and bottom end, cam issues, endless carb issues, etc. Plus, when it was working, it felt TERRIBLE with the snow bike kit. The four gears mean you're in first and second a lot and there's just no power there, or weird torquey lower that does you no good. And it's awkwardly heavy and it just felt super horrible. I was running a 2010 crf450r and my bike felt infinitely better, just because of the efi, the better gearing and the lighter weight. My buddy is going with a yz450 this year. He scrapped his sx505 for a thousand bucks after the bottom end went.

I had an 09 ktm 450 sx with the 4 spd and it wasnt too bad. Not optimal but it did fine. Best set up I found was to flip the gears in the TS chain case. Gave me a very high first gear that I could pull no mater what. Was a hand full in the tight, tight stuff in the spring though
