503 Fan Upgrades

welcome to the forum!!
I think you'll find that building more HP in the 503 isn't going to be easy..
I would recommend cleaning up the overhang on the shroud ports, intake and exh.. getting it jetted correctly and work on your clutching..
If that dosnt do it for you.. ya can always transplant a bigger motor..
I was using an ac belt , but don't remember the part # set it up to run about an 1/8" over the secondary and for us in WA I removed 3 pucks from the primary.. worked great...Good luck

What im looking for is the Carlisle Ultimax Belt part # so I can pick one up at my local Canadian Tire store. or a crossmach from a snowmobile that has the same belt lentgh.

Make your clutching work great would be the only thing you can really doo to make that 503 better. Match the Y-Pipe exhaust ports to the cylinder ports, jet it right, fresh pistons and you're pretty much done.

Work on the motor and you'll end up with overheating issues. The exhaust on the 503 is very good, can't really do a big porting job ("trail porting" could be ok), can't bore carbs, can't shave heads... Do any of these and you'll overheat within minutes and probably seize if you don't stop.

Follow that other thread where we talk about clutching a 503, that's precious info right there !

BuffaloHawk, what belt size do you run, can't be the 4640 right ?

T.

belt size

the 144-4740u3 should work fine the width is just a fraction wider but is a little longer than stock. go with the stock belt if you want 138-4628u3

i have been running the polaris xlt belts that were recomended years ago...i adjusted the clutch so the belt would run over the top. stock, the belt had to be almost a 1/4 inch below top of clutch, that alone makes a huge improvement....next ride will have a Buds hawkshop clutch and sledr2 will be giving me the shaft to make it fit w/o shim
