$5000 fine for sledding?!?!?!!

This happened at a local sledding/tubing hill in the Vail Valley as well. The problem is that after people hurt themselves, they would file lawsuites against the Forest Service.

So you can't blame the Forest Service for trying to protect themselves, blame the lawsuite happy idiots.

Yep, thats Darwinism at its finest!

"Here kids, get on this tube that you can't steer or stop and I'll push you down the hill towards the parked cars at the bottom.....you guys ready to have some fun?"

Morons. Probably a bunch of democrats. :D

The tubing hill in Minturn if I am not mistaken. Right next to the USFS bldg, right?

Agreed, but instead of laws like this the better approach would be to not allow the dumbass lawsuits to even be filed. Much like tort reform for medical malpractice and abulance chasing attourneys, but don't even get me started on that.

And to tell the truth I do blame the lawsuit happy idiots first for hurting themselves and trying to pin the responsability on someone else, then the legal system second for allowing it, the forrest service is at the bottom of that list however the basic premise is all wrong that they need such a law. once again can't fix stupid.

I blame our legal system. It's one thing to blame lawsuit happy idiots, but when you have a lawyer at your hospital bed saying he'll make you some free money from your situation it's not hard to see why the suits are filed. Now, not being a lawyer I have no idea how these cases make it pass a trial unless they are just being settled before they get to court.

Yep that's the one. I grew up sledding/tubing on that hill. In fact I learned to Snow Board on that hill. I remember when me and a buddy tubed down the hill, hit a jump and we both came down on his arm and broke it. Went to the hospital go it in a cast and went tubing again next weekend. That's when you didn't have these soft rules out there because people were whinning and looking for someone to blame for their problems.

Well yes and no, I've been there with the lawyers calling for a malpractice suit before. Long story short docs were doing a lung biopsy and collapsed my lung, along with a few other missed steps along the way. My mother and I both said absolutely not, you see with out immediate action by the doctors I would be dead, period.

Did it suck balls to have to deal with a collapsed lung that may have been avoidable along with the other problems I was having, yes. But it would have been a lot worse to be dead because the docs didn't go for it knowing that the biopsy could very well have caused more problems.

It all comes down to your own personal integrity and personal responsability.

while i agree w/ most this, i think stupid can be (or more so, SHOULD be) fixed...

otherwise the same thing is going to keep happening. laws to put a stop to stupidity.. people still do illegal things. ultimately we really do need a fix to stupidity..or lack of common sense.

if its by disposing of the stupid, or re-education...something needs to be done.
and your right, it would come down to fixing law and government to get things started..
how or why do we have a bunch of idiots dictating and upholding our laws in the first place?
corruption ruins a lot good things..and so so many are corrupt..

The FS closed the sledding hill just before Mary Jane--east side of US 40 'cause the sleds were smashing into the parked cars. Lots of broken bones and dented cars.

lowest common denominator

my whole childhood is now illegal.....couple bales of hay would have worked in my day...growing up in Ohio we rode down thru hardwood forests and these clowns can't negotiate an open hillside, pathetic

Living at the bottom of berthoud & driving over it for about 5 years to work, If you'd seen the retarded crap I've seen up there, the big fine would make more sense.

I'm ALL for removing all signs & letting darwinism take over.

Stupid should hurt! I know I've felt my share of pain. :D The world would be a much better place w/o most lawyers and politicians. Too bad we can't get them to go sledding on those hills.

we so need snow to take our frustrations out on.....you can tell by the nonsense on the boards.....

Rofl, and this is the "hills" fault? ><
Good thing someones protecting us from the hills around us, or we'd all be goners (soon or later......in some lifetime.....).
Ahhh, wait...thats exactly what their trying to do, ruin our lifetimes...
Then again, I'm sure it was the person that parked their car in the way at fault...no doubt. How dare a car get in a pedestrians way..

I know your just stating a fact Bob, so I'm not laughing at you, I'm just thoroughly amused by how illogical this looks.

I think its good for us to see the true and real "nonsense" that is going on around us as we are all out riding...we obviously haven't paid it much attention thus far.

But your right, we really do need snow. :D
