50 gal fuel tank in place of stock tank?

Have a 2007 GMC duramax "classic" body style. tired of my small 25 gallon tank.
Who has installed over sized fuel tanks in place of the stock one? What brand did you use? Are you happy with it? Any problems concerns?

Not looking for auxilary tanks or in-bed tanks that feed into the stock ones. Just looking for a larger tank that replaces the stock tank.

Thanks in advance!

Titan is the most popular and probably the best choice. I can't remember the actual size but I think it's around 40. They are a pretty straight forward install, although the dmax can be a b'tch to get all the connectors off the top of the tank. The only downside i can think of is the fuel gauge is not nearly as accurate because most of your added fuel comes from higher than the original tank, your gauge stays on full until you are almost at 1/2. EFILive can adjust the sending unit parameters. PM me if you are interested we are a dealer for Titan.

I have a Titan 52 gallon in my 2007 GMC Duramax (new body style). I bought the truck with it so I can't speak to install. I also have EFI live and it still doesn't get an accurate reading with the fuel gauge no matter the parameters I have run. I have tried everything and I think the shape of the tank makes it tough to get the guage close. I have tried other parameters some other guys are running and they all are innacurate.

Usually my fuel light comes on qith 15 gallons still in the tank which can be annoying. Well worth it though to be able to go so much further in between fill ups. I usually fill it all the way up when Diesel is down in price and can go over 800 miles on a tank.

put one in my dads truck (2006 dmax) back in 06. cant recall the brand but Titan sounds correct. no issues, but the gauge is something that may bother you. the range is awesome. he took a trip empty and was getting just over 20 mpg, having 1000 mile range is awesome. he just uses his truck to pull the race car trailer to the track 5 miles. he can seriously go 4+ months without filling it up.

if you plan on keeping the truck its worth it IMO.

I just had a titan 52 gallon installed on my 09 dmax and love it. not a easy install but now that its done it was totally worth it. Good luck.

Have you checked if the 36 gallon tank on the new GM trucks will work? I would think that would be the easiest route and your gauges will still read accurately.

Good thread. I would love to put a bigger tank in my 06 as well, but Titan sure is proud of their tanks!

right? $1265 for their 52 gallon tank. There is a company called aero that has a 50 gallon tank for $1000 but you have to have it installed by them in san bernadino california.. The other company i found was transferflow with a 45 gallon tank for $1000.

Phatty, you can go to your gm dealer (or a junkyard) and order a rear tank for any of the 2500/6500 flat bed rigs that will bolt in with all stock brackets/hoses/wiring where the current stock spare is mounted...these trucks were factory with dual tanks...the way it works is you need to have the computer reflashed for dual tanks, and the truck runs off the frt tank, automatically transfers fuel from the rear tank(many sizes available, from a 13 gallon suburban rear tank up to as big as 50 for a work flatbed)..its spendy, but if you do it with factory parts, you can make it all IM legal as well, with all factory speced parts for tank capacities, vapor canisters, plumbing....I have done a few from as early as 2001 model yr..all passed IM inspection after installs(I took them in to our state referee station and had them inspected and certed..)...last one I did was an 06, gasser, ran about 900 total for all parts thru a junkyard, plus the cost for a dealer to reflash the computer(no labor for my install)

I put a 56 gallon aftermarket tank on my previous truck. My lesson learned, my aftermarket tank had a flat bottom, so even if I had 15 gallons left and I was hauling up a steep grade, I would starved the engine of fuel.
Make sure your tank has the fuel pick up in some sort of depression in the tank.
Still a good investment in my opinion and plan to add this option again except at $4+ diesel it would sometimes take 3 credit card transactions to fill it.
Sure do miss the good old 500 gallon farm tank of fuel.

......TITAN! no problems at all and its sweet going 700+ between fill ups, only thing is i had to move where i mounted my FASS sytsem so if ya got a lift pump might have to think of that, nothing major tho(move a foot further back on frame)

I had a 08 dmax with the 52 gal titan, I would reset gallons used feature on the on board computer to keep track fuel level,The one thing i did not like was it would burp when topping off.
