I know a couple of them, they got bogged down in a drainage Northwest of Dead Mexican, some even got wet. Because of the conditions they decided to spend the night and build a big fire. Only bad thing was one burnt a hole in his pants from the fire, and one maybe got some slight frost bite. They had no saws (except for a Leatherman tool), so they had to resort to breaking branches off of tree's for the fire. In the middle of the night a big chunk of snow feel out of the tree and almost put their fire out ...Jeremiah Johnson.
We coordinated to help Search and Rescue in the effort, and was glad to see them loading sleds on their trailers as we arrived. They were in good spirits for having spent a nasty night in the woods. They had no problem riding out at day break.
We decided to go ride since we were already mobilized, and got as far as the Elkhorn Mountain drainage before we had to turn around because the snow was too deep and causing our sleds to choke and bog.
The area we thought they where in ended up being no where close to where they ended up. North Routt is a vast expansive area that swallows up a lot of sledders. We very seldom run across other sledders the times we are out, but come back to find a packed parking lot and roadside with trucks and trailers.
So, does everyone have a survival kit, and do you guys have a good saw ...I'm not talking about that piece of crap saw in the handle of your shovel that snaps in two like a dry twig the first time you use it?
