5.7l chevy upgrades??

how old and how cheap?..hard to make good power pickups with out spending some money..best reliable mod to make good power is a street blower..many are C.A.R.B registered for emissions and on a small block will pickup about 100 hp....have bought kits for carbed small blocks for around 2500 ..you can do aftermarket heads, headers, mild street roller cam and camtrain but you will spend at least 2000 and only pickup about 50-60 hp....

like 89-98 and like 1500 bucks is about the budget

i was think throttle body spacer cold air intake and a shift kit?
dunno what else

not much you can do, what you have in mind and add a programmer, and a good street hydralic rollercam kit(if yours has a roller cam stock go more agressive on the cam)(roller cams pick up power over a standard flat tappet cam(hydraulic or solids)due to being able to slam the valves open keep them at full lift for a longer time and then slam them shut vrs a flat tappet cam which has to gently lift them open and gently close them)..other then that a good set of headers ..if this is for street driving/hauling you want a torque style setup not max hp....plan on a good tru roller t-chain set as well, reuse stock rockers and pushrods, get springs to match the cam ....never seen much good with a throttle spacer..

i dont own one of these trucks but i plan on getting one in the future and i want to do everything i can to it but on a budget. What other things can u do u can get chips for the newer ones right?

yes..but you are stuck with their programming and power lvels..another cheaper thing you can do is look at the heads close..alot of times you can pick up stock heads with bigger ports and valves and drop them on(in concert with camtrain)..but if its computer controlled you have to tread lightly or you will be into custom fuel pumps and regulators to get fuel right to make it run right...

I've owned a bunch of the 88-99 classic body style chevy trucks and suburbans. The cold air intake will be your best bang for the buck. The throttle body spacers are a gimick and don't work at all with the newer tbi or multi port fuel injection. There is a place in havasu city(Accurate Injector Service) that cleans, rebuilds and tunes/matches fuel injectors for a very resonable price. I had 8 injectors done for less than $200. It was well worth it and it will make a gasser purr. Exhaust is hit or miss also. I love the sound of flowmaster but in the end it hurts fuel economy and torque in the rpms that you need it. I've not had very good luck with the tuners on the gas motors either. Hypertech has been the best imho but power gains are minimal. If I had $1500 to spend, I'd get me a good CAI (non oiled filter type), injectors rebuilt, a hypertech and a nice set of performance tires.

i have a K&N Air Charger, IMCO muffler 3 inch back with 4 inch tip, i have been thinking about getting a chip and a throttle body spacer. That is about all you can do with out getting internals. If you went that way you could go with the mild cam. You could also get headers. Thats all about all i have to tell you.

5.7 upgrades

dont waste money on any upgrades other than a k@n air filter i spent $3000 new engine ,doug thorley tri y headers eldebrock cam and intake flow matched injectors and hyperteck chip gained no fuel milage and about 10 cents worth of performance

Dude, this thread was from 2009, I think the OP made a decision by now!!!!
