4/8/10 reflash for 800 cfi

Cliff, when was the last time the place you get gas got fresh gas delievered? I am thinking thier fuel is from the fall and its deteriorating...the only octane boosters I know that work on 2 strokes are klotz and torco..can you guys get av gas there?(100LL) if so 2 gallons of that mixed with the other fuel should get you good on fuel quality....

Was delivered in the fall time i think in sept.. ya we have av gas here will try it out.

just an FYI - my D8 fried an ECM and VR about 3 weeks ago, replaced with new VR and EMC yanked from a floor model 2010 and flashed with the latest flash which would be the one mentioned in the original post. 3 rides since then (2010 engine update was done last fall), one ride stock (ran great, 6000-7000 ft elev, approx. 30-40 degrees), two rides with SLP single (same elevation). One ride with the SLP single was at 30-40 degrees and it ran great. No bog. Last ride was at about 60 degrees and sunny, had a big midrange bog. WFO was great, transition in and out of WFO was not so great. Like it was running out of gas. Frustrating, as the only change between the two weekends was temp, and ECM should have compensated for that properly...

that was probably my last ride for the season...

Temp changes

So, it sounds like Polaris didn't rework the cold temp/warm temp issues with the fuel map. While 60 F is a fairly high temperature, it isn't totally uncommon in spring. The poor temperature compensation from the stock ECM is "normal" and very noticeable if you have a PC 5. Early in the season, I had a PC 5 map that ran nicely for me (lots of midrange fuel added) but the first time the temp hit 30 F during the day, the sled ran so bad I wasn't sure I was going to get home and thought perhaps something had gone wrong. When the temp cooled down again, it was back to running well. Others have experienced similar issues. With some additional tuning time, I ended up with a "cold weather" map and a "warm weather" map by the end of the season. I still can't figure out how the temp compensation can be so messed up. Not to go off on a tangent, but has anyone hooked up an additional temp sensor and used the PC 5 temperature compensation function to fix this? Its something I've considered, but was wondering if someone else has already been down that road. The biggest concern I have is that without auto tune, there isn't any good way to determine whether the compensation needs to be linear or if the problem shows up in a particular range of temperatures. It seems that anything below about 25 F, the single PC 5 map runs pretty well, so I'm almost thinking its either a temperature range or above a certain temp where things fall apart.

newest reflash

had mine reflashed on the 13th of may, went riding on the 16th,was about 42 degrees and sunny, midrange stumble was definately there, would only pull 7800rpms with 10-62's,slp blue pink,58-42 helix and red\black sec spring,oh it has an slp single,my 03 vertical escape would pull this same set up with 2g more weight at 8000rpms, so it must be down on power,we barely made it back to the truck,by the afternoon it would only pull 6800r's so we limped back to the truck and took it in for a check, stopped in today to see what's going on and the top end is off, both pistons are hooped and so is the block, will a pc 3 or 5 fix the fueling issue? or should i get rid of it...

If I'm not mistaken, I thought my service manager told me the flash was ok for sleds with a stock pipe only. There have been a number of flashes and I've talked to my service manager several times about different flashes and what they are supposed to do, so I'm not "positive" - maybe someone else here knows for sure.

so far from what I have seen all the flashes have been rich enough to run the pipe(you could run the slp resistor if it worried you(it richens the fuel curve by 4-5%))..my guess is what got it was the temps were over 40*..seems that all the flashes lean up too much at warmer temps....

Don't need an additional one, just use what the sled has. You can do either the coolant temp or the airbox temp. I would suggest the airbox temp and an AFR gauge. And a notebook computer. And this thermos...and this paddleball game...:face-icon-small-hap

I have an 09 assault. Had the PTO seal replaced and got the new reflash a few weeks ago. Ran it hard this weekend I was at 1300 ft and 75 degrees. I noticed a small hesitation just off the line and not sure if it happened every time. Other then that it ran rather strong for me. I now have a check engine light flashing for a exhaust temp sensor voltage issue.

I was wondering if the output from the factory sensor (either coolant or air) could be "shared" with the PC V without messing up the signal to the ECM. Have you actually done this? I realize the computer and an AFR guage or Auto-tune for the PC V is a necessary thing too, just wondering if anyone had tried actually doing what I was thinking to find out if there were any pitfalls to watch out for.

reflash

A friend of mine has an 09 D8 163 and has been thru every reflash that polaris has issued. He said that this new one was awesome, no midrange stumble at all, it was smooth all the way from no throttle to WFO. He pulls 8200-8300 rpms, with a team green spring and 10-66 weights, and stock secondary, and I believe he has the stock pipe. The temperature was in the high 30's, low 40's. This was at Petersville, AK, Im not sure what elevation is there, but its well below 3000'. Thinking about getting this reflash also, just waiting for more comments with this map being used in colder temps.
