3M glue

My reservations with the 8115 is that epoxy does not do as well as acrylic adhesives in low temps.

The other is that 3M themselves says

" This product is not intended to bond structural components"

It's a panel repair adhesive.

What?! Maybe for a standard bis-A epoxy but not for formulated epoxies. If that were the case then skis and snowboards would use acrylics (they don't). Lord Corp doesn't know everything, trust me.

Have FUN!

I've used 3M 2216 with great results.

"may be used for aircraft and aerospace applications" and strength increase with lowering temps. I would say 3M is a contender...

That info is a keeper Robbie, thanks.

I've build a couple of experimental airplanes. We glued the wings together with it.

G-man... Referring to the 8115 questions with my comment... Yes, some epoxies have amazing characteristics as seen in the composite matrix of the products you mention and sell resins for.

Robbie, the 2116 is a GREAT adhesive... with more flexibilty than most

What is the price point on the 2116 with dispensers and tips and where do you buy it in small quantities?

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2216

Flexible, two-part, room-temperature-curing epoxy with high peel and shear strength. Excellent for bonding many metals, woods, plastics, rubbers, and masonry products. Good retention of strength after environmental aging. Resistant to extreme shock, vibration, and flexing

$35 on Ebay for 3 fluid oz. No dispensers and tips needed.

Thanks Robbie . So what do you think it will work for the chain case ? This is not my area of expertise .

Beam,

I'm curious... If you are going to order this product anyway, and don't seem to need it 'today'.... What would be the reason for substituting the factory used/specified adhesive that you can get easily, for $30, for the kit for something else?

Also... What is the future thermal release properties of the Epoxy you will use should you need to remove the part in the future?

I use both, have had no issues with 3M 8115 on gluing sheet aluminum togeather(it is not as strong as lords..but then again, its far stronger then the sheetmetal is anyway, and I am not relying on just the chemical bond since I am also riveting it (aircraft rivets) .. but that's just my opinion...and it releases the same as lords does with heat.

I ordered the lords this morning but alternatives are always nice . The people of Chemical Concepts are great to deal with and are going to add the SM 1 and SM 2 to there web page and also include some pic's of the gun and caulk gun adapter .
Thanks again MH for going the extra mile for us on here .

I've used 3M 2116 on my sled for different things over the years and have had great luck.
