You are absolutely right, the fueling part is critical for reaching the 383's potential. My buddy put in the hypertech(?) chip at that time as they were the only company to build one for it. It really helped when we put the throttle body off a 454 as far as performance. I do believe they had considerable more cfm's. Problem today is GM has not made a 350 TBI motor since 95 so finding TBI stuff is fairly hard, carb on the other hand is no problem. What kind of vehicle is this going in?The trick with the 383 is fueling it. Carbed or vortec multiport is no problem. A good tuner can build a download or tune the carb and ignition. The throttle body engines are another animal. They used a prom, which was a calibration chip installed into the PCM. I am not sure how many companies are still making them,and without more fuel the 383 runs bad. The up side to the old TBI engines was they were relatively easy on gas and bulletproof. The down side was they were hard to mod.
