3500 bucks and a newbie needin a sled..

Got a call from my counsin today, he has finally wised up and is looking for a sled. He has about $3500 to spend, but could go as high as $4000 if it was a killer deal. He's in his 20s, about 5'2" and weighs around 150. He's pretty athletic, and will mostly be riding deep snow. I'd love for him to get a rev 600 like me, but am not quite sure his price range will allow it. Most his buddies will be riding revs, but he hasn't ridden much at all, thus not brand loyal. also, the sled must have a good track record for reliabililty.

keep in mind, all his avalanche gear and safety equip. is already taken care of with other funds.

opinions opinions please, I need help to help him. thanks!

You are thinking right... 2003'ish Edge RMK in 700 or 800, 800ZX Summit, or M sled. How big of a guy is he? You can pick up 900 Cat's pretty reasonable too if he is big enough to ride it.

no jesus lol a 900 M he could kill himself! loli first rode a polairs 550 RMK fan cooled with a "136" track it trained me pretty good. but no anything above a 600 is a big no! lol start him off with a 500 550 or a 600 cc sled Believe me so he can learn and turn at the same time! i recommed looking in local auto trader's or bargan finder's. or go to a skidoo dealer ship and see what they have for sale. Even look in the paper. Deal's are all around my friend.

Have a great upcoming season!

How about my 2003 RMK 800 159 Blue and yellow Snowcheck. It is well trained in the east Idaho mountains. SLP Pipe, VF3 reeds, tough boy bearing, SLP air horn & flowrites.

It is a great sled to learn on and in his price range AND....just down the road from the great R'brg. 2 extra belts too!

Lets do business...

Heck, I just sold a stock ZX 800/144" with 1250 miles on it for $2500. I'm going to keep my other one. If the miles are low, they are a great starter sled, and there pretty solid.

I have seen a few cat 900's fall into the price range. Thats a lot of sled for the money.

$3500

Is what I wanted out of this 2001 snowcheck special 800 cc 151" track. This sled has 900 miles, it's in show room condition with Fox shocks All the way around. The track has a couple of lugs missing, because all they did was ride it on the trail it's whole life.

I think he should look into 2004 RMK 800. I have seen alot of them in that price range. I just got one two days ago with reverse a 159 track 900 miles and the big bearing already installed

I think he would really like an edge 800, however I've had a few buddies that have owned them and have all lost their engines. I'm not familiar with polaris so much, so is this big bearing mod a sure fire way to improve the reliablilty?

I'd go with an M sled....for the little extra money, I think he would be way happier with it. If not an M I would go with an 8 or 900 mountain cat, or an 800 edge. However, the 800 liberty motors are fairly notorious for taking cranks. he would be happy with any of them though

I've got an '03 1/2 Mountian Cat 900 1M 159 for sale. 800 miles. Be right around the $4000 mark or a little under. I will be posting it in the swapmeet soon. Let me know if you are interested.

I couldn't agree more - Stay away from big power/track with your first sled! One needs to first 'learn' how to ride; managing balance/body english with throttle control. Big power will most likely get him (and possibly others) into unmanageable trouble without knowing how to handle that particular situation. It's never any fun to wreck a sled or hurt yourself/others. Also, that alone could turn him off to the sport alltogether. . .
