anyone else heard this. obama said that he can't control gun sales but he can put a $30 tax on a box of shells. i was hoping that we would be able to tolerate this prick for a pres, but i see i was wrong.

I see where he is against concealed weapons... but still nothing on ammo tax

Edit... same website says:http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/nra_targets_obama.html

NRA Claim: "Increase Federal Taxes on Guns and Ammunition by 500 Percent"

Uncertain: This claim is based on an article that appeared in the Chicago Defender on Dec. 13, 1999, when Obama was in the Illinois state Senate. According to the Defender, at an anti-gun rally, Obama "outlined his anti-gun plan," which, among other things, sought to "increase the federal taxes by 500 percent on the sale of firearm, ammunition [sic] -- weapons he says are most commonly used in firearm deaths." As a U.S. senator, however, Obama has not pushed for any such tax on ammunition.

We asked the Obama campaign about his position on an ammunition tax but have received no response.

I hope that Obama's advisers will differentiate between inner city gun control issues and rural hunting issues. Not sure how you could do that - perhaps by County. Obama's stance on gun-control etc stems from being in Chicago for so long. Hunting/gun ownership is it's own economic machine that needs to be maintained.

If guns and shells go up in price dramatically within the next 2 months, it'll be your retailer putting the screws to you because of "market" scares, not Obama.

fk,.. thats not good. better buy up those AK's, AR's etc. while you still can..

BTW.. I just ordered another 3000 rounds today.. Not because I think we are going to war with ourselves YET, just because of the tax and price hikes in the near future.

Just wait for the guy to at least get into office.
I can't stand the guy, but at least let him get into office before you have him destroying everything.

Civil unrest is something they already know about and are looking at closely.
They know Obama didn't win a landslide. They aren't going to walk in and change everything overnight.
Definetly keep an eye on things, but don't jump off the deep end till you have a taget to actually jump on.

Read [L]:
"A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event."

It only has 67 cosponsors in the house currently

Nope, just smart enough to buy and learn to use a reloading machine.

To run around and scream the sky is falling isn't going to do much other than raise your blood pressure.

Let him get into office and see what he does. I think he is a flaming liberal. However, until the rest of america (at least the ones with common sence) wakes up, we don't dare do anything. It will take an effort by millions standing up and saying NO. All the keyboard chest thumping isn't going to do anything.

Anyone who believes that sheet has their head so far up there arse they will soon turn themselves inside out!!

doo tee doo tee doooo!!!!!

taxing your guns

The federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition is a rare creature: a federal tax that is fully supported by those who pay it. Long guns and long gun ammunition are taxed at 11 percent; handguns and handgun ammunition are taxed at 10 percent. The tax is a key source of funding for wildlife conservation projects and shooting range construction across the nation.

But in 1999 then-state senator Obama proposed increasing these taxes by 500 percent. It's safe to say that Obama wasn't hoping to build more shooting ranges.

Right now, a rifle that a manufacturer sells for $500 carries a tax of $55. Under Obama's proposal, that amount would rocket to $330. This would turn a tax willingly paid by sportsmen into a tool to punish gun buyers and would have its biggest impact on those who can least afford to pay such an exorbitant tax--at least, until the loss of sales drove gun stores and manufacturers out of business.

My rule is everytime I go to wally world, Cabelas or Scheels I pick up 2 boxes of something whether it is 270, 9mm, 7mm mag, 22 mag or whatever.

Damn thats a good rule!!!! I will have to start doing that. "Tip for the Day"
