3" paddles on an Apex

I've had several customers ask if they can put a 3" paddle in their Apexs. The center to center distance on a Apex chaincase is 6.875". If you subtract .5" for half the diameter of the jackshaft you get 6.375". The radius of a 7 tooth 3" driver is 3.1875" and the track is 3.25" including the belting. Those two numbers add to 6.4375". In other words the track will be hitting the jackshaft by about .0625" at rest. This won't work.

I think Robbie might have a apex extended chaincase or two yet.Check them out at avid-products, loved mine.

I don't thank its worth it. Id go 2.5 and not look back.we have done a 174 3 inch on a apex with a drop and roll, made it very front end heavy with a name brand skid. This is just my 2 cents.

When I bought my apex it had the stock case and a 162 M10. Last year I installed a avid case and 3" 174 and new rails for my skid. And I never noticed a change in the steering or the way the machine handled.

DUUUHH!!:face-icon-small-blu guess I shoulda looked at the OP. Anyway Robbie sell one of your chaincases, remember my apex and your RX-1 had plenty of room for a 3".

Put one of those fancy extended billet avid chaincases on my redone nytro and all I can say is, what a thing of beauty. I had a camo extreme 2 1/2"x162"x15" and plan on running a 3" this winter.

I have heard of this before, what I wonder is if you play with the suspension enough .....can you bring it back to where it was ?

drop and roll!!

Drop and roll won't change the center to center distance on the two shafts, the only way to make it work right is Robbie's chain case. I'm one of the guys that's been talking to him and the man knows his stuff!

I've had both, both work fine. My old Apex had a CR Racing drop and roll kit. My current sled runs a Split Second chaincase. Both worked fine. The drop and roll only fits 7 tooth drivers. The 3" track is well worth it in deep snow.

Now that's the way to do it! Looks good.I'm just not a fan of the drop and roll.

simple math

not saying you cant drop and roll and run a 3 inch but it will rub costing you track speed, as if swinging a 3 inch isnt bad enuff.. you need an extended chain case or smaller drivers (not a great idea either) julio

Speaking from experience, the jackshaft is above and in front of drivers. the track is always in tension there. I think it was even tighter with the 2.5" and 8 tooth drivers I originally had. Put thousands of kms on with this set up, NEVER an issue...
