2500 HD 6.0 gas opinions

I know this is going to open up all kinds of opinions but looking for honest opinions on the 2016 GM 2500hd 6.0 gas for towing. Right now I have a 2014 ram 5.7 with 3.92 gears in it. I will say it tows fairly decent but it is also a 1/2 ton so you get pushed around a little. I am not really interested in getting a diesel and looking at GM because the Ram style is starting to look dated being out since 09 with the same body style yet I have owned 4 Rams in the past 10 years with no complaints. The heaviest load I tow is about 8,000 lbs around home and a trip or two to the mountains with a 24' enclosed. Anyone with newer GM HD's out there?

If you are satisfied with the 5.7 Hemi, you will also be happy with the 6.0
In my opinion, I think the 6.0 has a little better low end to it.

Have a buddy with one that we have taken to the mountains a few times.
Very capable truck.

My uncle has a 11 Denali with a 6.0 and surely it's no diesel. But as mafesto said, definitely a capable pickup and gets down the road fairly well.

I'm driving a 2012 GMC 2500HD with the 6.0. Absolutely no complaints! I carry a 3,000+lb truck camper and tow a 16 open trailer with it.

The 6.0 is a great motor. It will not compare to a diesel but what will? When you the the 6.0 you can get 3.73 or 4.10 gears. If towing is really a concern, make sure you get the 4.10 gears (check the window sticker).

If you are only towing 8,000 lbs, you might take a look at a half ton with the 6.2l in it as well. Either will treat you good. Sure the half ton is still a half ton but 4x4 it is rated to tow 11,800 lbs with the 6.2l, max towing package and the correct gearing.

A 2500 makes a world of difference towing compared to a 1500....ever try stopping an 11,000lb load with a 1500?

Yep, people miss this. 1/2 tons are more spongy. HD trucks have full floating axles, more lugs, bigger brakes, tie rods, more leaf springs and best of all more torque.

But...you can't explain it to someone, you have to let them try it in a 1/2 ton and then an HD truck.

I'm fully aware of the differences in towing characteristics between chassis size. I tow everything up to 85,000 gross with 1/2 tons, 3/4 tons, 1 ton duallys and semis. A person that doesn't tow regularly doesn't need a 3/4 ton or larger to tow 8,000 for a few sled trips a year. Anything bigger than a half ton is a huge pain in the *** to deal with as a daily driver.

This is so true. After owning 4 new 1/2 tons in the past 10 years and then driving a HD truck I realized the huge difference. I have pulled upwards of 12k pounds with a 1/2 ton sure the power is there and the new ones are rated for it but not what they are designed for.
