How many other people have gotten and email from cat about a countdown to March 3rd when the 2022 cats will be released? Thought they were released last week? Says a new backcountry and mountain sled?!?! What?

They are doing the dealer and retail release a couple weeks apart from each other

They have certainly had a “personality” change since being acquired haven’t they...

Arctic cat is a well oiled coherent machine.

Just sit back and appreciate the mastery.

I'm kidding. Somebody who lives in mountains please take over that fvcking company.
Good thing i read the kidding part before i freaked out. They have been hanging out with Yamaha so i don't have much hope. Someone said Yamaha skis were better and i was wondering how they would know what works in the mountains. They can't even build their own sled.
As much as i bitch about cat, i really love the alpha but it could be so much better with just a few things. I know you can't make snowmobilers happy. If they ask for lighter and you give it to them, they will say it's going to break. Arctic cat doesn't even try. It's like Yamaha with their 4 stroke. Everyone was done with them and they knew what people wanted but didn't care. They could see what was selling. Give some decent boards and post bushings and clean up that gaudy mess in front of the bars. Put a goggle bag down on the clutch gaurd would be a good start.

They need to change the design of the front of the sled and quit changing things that work. They continue to ignore known issues and think their sleds are losing market share because of colors and overpriced shocks that don't matter in 3ft of snow.

And they need to make it a functional relationship to be a cat dealer, not an adversarial one.

Oh well.........in the meantime skidoo is gonna sell a shlt ton of SPs and polaris is gonna sell a shlt ton of whatever they call their base model now. And all the while no one can buy a twin rail cat for deep snow, much less one that costs less than 15k.

My 20 actually ran stellar where my 19 bogged in deep powder. Took 2 years to find deep enough powder to find out. Really happy. I was going to convert a new polaris but changed my mind. Everything would be way better other than one thing. Maybe two. It costs $5000 to convert and There is virtually no feedback through the bars when on edge. We got into some good powder but there were old tracks underneath. Didn't even phase my cat but the 850 polaris you could feel it pretty good. I'm sure a doo would have ripped your hands off the bars. Even my buddy on the polaris was commenting on how great it was with no feedback. I think you pay the price of hard steering for that but it's only on the trail. I think their schock adjustment is a gimmick just like doos limiter strap adjustment. I'm probably going back to a 165 to take some of the squirrelyness out of it even though it is more fun. I am also going with e start, with their crappy trail seat, due to my shoulders. I guess we will see how googly eyed i am at the new polaris first.

cat builds their sleds but i think theres some things yama said no way on, that was the old cat clutches, their goofy skis, and used to be their old proclimb plastics. the ascender is kinda modeled after the refined yama plastics from proclimb days. i think its a good marriage, they just dont work together enough yet. maybe theyre coming around with that new primary.
although nobody in the clutch exploding thread has verified the issue with the 20-21 teams yet. Teams are kinda noisy, Im sure a yama clutch will be quieter, hope they dont mess with the belt life tho. actually maybe thats the whole point, they look at how much doo makes on replacement belts and decided to make a belt blaster of their own. ?

My 19 had all the stuff everyone has shown pictures of but my 20 clutches look perfect. I like their side panels. Easy on and off. Not a fan of their hood. Always want to grab that sliver when stuck. It's not a grab bar. No track problems like some or hifax. I haven't ever tightened my track. I think some of the problems come from too fast down trail in marginal snow. Transfers heat through clips into rods and lugs. Their motor is actually really good just not quite the power of the other two. They have a bunch of things going for them but they have a bunch of things that would be so simple to fix.

Why does everyone seems to think yamaha came up with a clutch design?

I got excited thinking maybe there are some secrets that haven't been leaked, but I'm thinking the 'legendary speed demon upgrade' is power steering on the Thundercat...and the new backcountry/mountain announcement is the 146 M Hardcore. I've also seen pics of the Blast XR which is a 146 blast with 1.6 lug, with a 2-up seat model too. Hopefully theres more but not holding my breath

Everyone complains that the manufacturers need to come out with a cheap base model... and then no one buys them.
Every year its the high end models that sell out first.
Base models usually only sell to people that have never ridden or dont care what it is, they just need a sled and the high end model isnt available.

Funny

*goes into garage and double checks*
My last new sled purchase was a base model.

Most of the guys I ride with most regularly are on base models. The only NON base model I've ever bought was a 2016 cat limited once it went on sale as a holdover. I see far more SP g4s than the gucci stuff.

Given what the upper end of each manufacturer's line costs now, there's even more need than ever. And honestly, other than some of the fox stuff that comes on cats I end up with better shocks than anything that comes on a stock sled for much cheaper.

Snowchecked a "base" model Alpha in 2020, was like $11700 msrp, didnt make sense to buy the other models when i knew it was gonna get better shocks and running boards anyway.

One more here for base models.

2018 AXYS 155 base model purchased brand new off dealer floor in spring of 2019 for $8,900.
2016 AXYS 155 base model purchased brand new off dealer floor in fall of 2016 for $9,500.
2011 M8 Limited with all the goodies I didn't care about and immediately sold at swapmeet purchased brand new off dealer floor in fall of 2013 for $8,000. This one was a beautiful green though. That was pretty cool. But I wouldn't have paid much extra for the pretty green.

As far as I'm concerned, especially in the Polaris lineup currently, spring check offers me nothing of what I actually want. The in-season model is configured exactly how I LOVE it. My kid complains though because black is boring. Screw him. He can pay an extra $5k for some fancy colors, fancy (but heavier) shocks, and a cool gauge (that on good powder days is completely covered in snow 90% of the time anyway) when it's his money. In my world, I can't even fathom paying that kind of money for that. I LOVE getting my base model Polaris sleds for a song on holdover.

No one buys base models unless thats the only thing sitting on the floor. Less than 10 percent snowcheck a base model. So all the poors wait until its on sale at the end of season and then buy a base model. If there was a Khaos or Expert or Hardcore sitting there with a rebate, you would have bought that.

The manufacturers have the numbers and know what sells, hence Cat dropping the base Alpha and 600s.

wasnt aware everyone was suspecting this. I hate incorrect speculation that goes around on the internet like hard fact, so ill quit that for now, thanks.
+1 for non-base models, i like fox float evol shocks, some years suffered from not great valving i believe, glad i didnt have one of those years. If you did i could see why youd think base steel springs are just as good.
