2017 800 piston SBA

I blew a chunk off the top of the cvt piston in my 2017 800.

Do I put oe pistons in it or not. A fix kit? There is so much contradicting information.

What do you guys recommend. Thanks. Sled has 3000 miles btw. I ride pretty hard.

Lost or broke the top ring the cylinder dose not look that bad from photo, Forget the FIX KIT and put stock pistons from Polaris or I have had very good luck with SPI stock replacement 2 ring pistons on the last three rebuilds that I have done! Clean up Cylinder and hone from some shop that can plateau hone it (Indy Dan can do that and there has been a shop here in Laramie WY also that I have used), make sure you check the bore size (mike it and check piston size for skirt clearance and set ring end gap) put it together and ride on!! Make sure the first thing you do is check the Cylinder for cracks!! Or just send it all to Indy Dan and write the check and it will be right!!

No fix kit needed. OE pistons would be best, but quality aftermarket forged pistons are fine too. Just let it warm up well (also a good idea with OE pistons).

If you can feel any of those scratches on the cylinder wall with your fingernail, then a hone and possibly re-nik is in order. Honing nikasil is not a diy job. If cylinder is smooth, clean up with green scrub pad/hot soapy water and send it.

Dome looks rough and may cause detonation if not cleaned up well. Replace if you care a lot about performance.

I'm gonna clean up the head really well. And go with oe pistons and im swapping my block for a new one.

I just hope these next ones last.

i just did one with wisecos ,as you know your cylinder is bad , the polaris pistons i pulled were super loose , i still won't use them on any of my builds , plus they a 250 each plus extras . wosner ,wiseco ,spi are my go to's

This is my first trip down this road of polaris pistons so ill put my faith in polaris and get the oem pistons... not the 2017 ones though. If they begin to fail at low mileage I will go spi or something else, thanks

i would like to know what makes the 15 pistons better than the rest. you can get spx/spi pistons that have grooves both sides and fully parkerized. why not them? polaris pistons are more money
and for what?

What's the difference between the 2206163 and 2205176? I am going to do a freshen up on a 2016 axys 800 w/ a silver turbo

The 15 pro pistons have been proven to keep ring locating pin longer than 16-20 pistons.

It’s just a tough piston.

Oil grooves and coatings won’t prevent massive damage from losing the pin and spinning a ring/ boom.

Do any aftermarket pistons hold the ring locating pin longer? Or only the 15 pro?

My opinion.......

Stick with cast pistons.

My research.......
Spi pistons have extremely variable reviews. Some guys no problems, some guys 100-200 miles til losing the ring locator.

If you have loose tolerances there’s no piston out there that will last long. (Most common cause of premature piston failure)

The easy way is buy a top end kit from indy specialty. (HG7 honed reinforced Cylinder with matched pistons and ring tolerances set, gaskets. )

FYI I have zero affiliation with indy specialty, just appreciate someone who stands behind their work.

I almost went with indy, it's just that time is of the essence right now....

Just paid 2k for a Wossner top end durability kit, gasket set, and renicasiled monoblock.... 200 core return... so.... guess I'll have to let everyone know how my durability kit does in my h.o.....

How did the Wossner durability kit work for you? I just installed same setup in a 2016 and haven't rode it yet. Lots of guys saying I shouldn't have. Pros, Cons you have found?
