2016 track speeds?

I totally agree with the 43 helix. At 10,000 ft in deep snow it works so much better than the 48. Took an extra secondary in my backpack last time I went out (had the 48 on the sled and 43 in the pack). Traded back and forth secondary clutches on the hill and the 43 performs way better. Ordered a 44 with a stiffer spring from BDX. Unfortunately they send me a 46 instead of the 44 I ordered. The 46 with the stiffer spring works about as good as the 43. On my 925 I'm also running MDS weights at 80grams. This combo is working really well for me. Still have to try the 43 with the stiffer spring and see what it does.

It doesnt seem like track speed has increased much if any over the recent years horse power has been stabalized and clutching is not changing that much

Can't sell clutch kits with that attitude. I think this is getting over thought a little.

Horsepower hasn't changed much since the M8/M1000 in 08' and lug length has gone from 2" to 3" in the same time frame. For almost the same hp sled to pull a 50% increase in track lug height and still get the same track speed is a big deal. There is also a fine balance between track speed and traction. Too much of one and not enough of the other is not good.

I was thinking about that the other day while I was searching the T3 and Axys sections to see what they were getting for track speeds.

In 2008 when the XP was hot and Skidoo guys acted like the XP was unbeatable, they were "KILLING" other sleds with their 37mph speeds. All it took to beat those xp's was 2-3mph faster track speeds with a camo extreme on a M8!

Here we are 7-8 years later with a couple more horse's and way bigger and better tracks..... Well...? All we need is 2-3mph faster speeds and that'll do it!:face-icon-small-ton

So to say things like "you can't sell clutch kits with that attitude" is kind of lame. Sorry, but clutching is what makes your sled go better than the other guys sleds!:face-icon-small-coo

Rolling up on a dozen Axys fags and out climbing and making them look slow and weak, priceless! Or maybe just a clutch kit that works is that price.:face-icon-small-sho

It just seems to me that Cat has had their clutching fairly spot on from factory for the last few years. Change weights and maybe a spring and it's pretty solid. I just don't think there needs to be a total revamping of what came from factory. That's what I meant by selling clutch kits. Yes you need to dial in your sled for elevation and rider weight. But beyond that, I think some get a little carried away chasing that little bit extra.

Speedwerx stage 2 is around 1500.00 and claims 15hp.

I changed my clutching and pulled with it, both sleds where early builds.
That's a little more than just thinking about it imo

35 mph at 2000' with my 16 limited M6000 on a steep hill with 2' fluffy stuff. hoping to get high 30's after some clutch work

What else did the speedwerx guy have done to his sled? Yours isn't exactly stock other than clutching.

Light hood, boards, similar stuff but his is a early build just like mine, stock gears.
Mine is pretty much just light weight stuff, that was with the stock skid too. With the kmod there is no comparison, mine just goes places a stock skid machine won't. I still might be able to get a stock skid in some places but the kmod makes it look effortless. And that's a big maybe,
