Got out a bit this afternoon to start on project "2015 VIPER". I will have a section on our website with a full writeup as we go. Will be testing turbo, clutching, suspension, skis, tracks, gearing, controls etc this year so we have a tight setup before the fun starts next season. This sled is a 162 with a Camoplast 3" Xtreme X3 track. 21/49 gearing in the chaincase. 7t Avid Drivers. MPI turbo that will be setup at 6/8/10 and 12 pounds of boost if the stock injectors and fuel pump allow. Ill keep you guys updated, but I will say if you have a Nytro, it aint the same animal! I really think this will be a strong 4 stroke platform.

I am still working on the file to post on the website...been super behind at work. Ill give you a brief update so you guys know what is going on so far.

First, this sled is really good. I was looking at the Proclimb sleds the other day and I rode my 800 with our 909 kit in it, then the Viper, then my M9000 with an Evolution Superchute. They all handle soooooo differently. The Viper handles really nice and I can tell the engine is higher and back further as it is easier to get started on a sidehill than most.

I ran it boosted at 6 lbs of boost, and am dialing in clutching and fuel for 8 pounds tonight and then we will move to 10. So far so good on all of them. I think around 9 or 10lbs will keep most guys very happy. I am running 55 to 58 mph track speed up deep heavy snow at 8 lbs, which is very similar to an M8000 at 10 to 12 lbs of boost. I am geared at 21/49 in the case and 7t drivers with a 3" track.

The fueling is very forgiving and much less finicky than past Nytros that I have tuned and it is all thanks to the Arctic Cat ECU and EFI system.

The sled is the lightest feeling easiest riding 4 stroke that I have ever ridden. It feels much more like the M8000 than the 9000.

You know what else rocks? Pulling a nice climb on and off the throttle and around and through the trees and getting to the top and putting bare hands on the clutch and belt to check temps!!!!

I have some GoPro footage etc and Ill be posting that.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them here so the information is easy to get to.

Are you running the MPI kit with the intercooler? Or the base kit thats sold with the spring order.

Thanks

i doubt he's tuning for 10 psi on the $2000 MPI kit.

that is a lot of power to get 56-58 mph track speed with a 3" track. it;s got to be at least 240Hp or even the 270HP kit

Weight questions

Being Honest here.
Never have ever considered buy a yamaha until this stock boosted machine has come available. It appears to me to a machine that may need to be considered for boon docking and plain in the trees. Does anybody have any actual weight data for the new 2015 machines.

Thanks

On another forum, there is a thread with all sorts of sleds with ready to ride weights. They just weighed a 2015 162 (demo) with a boost kit at 614. That's wet, full of fluids, ready to ride. They also weighed an extended boosted 2014, with a 38 inch a-arm kit wet ready to ride at 610 pounds.

Another, on this forum weighed a 2014, "just down from the mountain" (with snow) and it weighed 666.

Take your pick.

The guy weighing on the other thread is a friend of mine. I trust the 614 number, it's also photographed and it's without snow. With a light weight hood, lithium battery (another 30 pounds), this machine with 180-210 hp will be a ripper.

What forum is that ?? Please post a link

2014 Viper with 162 rails, tunnel ext and 2.5 track, 38" stance and mcx 270 kit. 666lbs full of fuel ready to ride (about5-10lbs snow on sled) as we just got down the hill. With my 2.5gal Jerry can full and tunnel bag full of all the gear I ride with it weighed 706lbs. I have pics but they won't load from my phone. Same scale we weighed my 1100 Proclimb full of fuel but clear of all snow and it was 675lbs.

I call bs on the claimed 614lbs and 600lbs ready to ride weights.

I was expecting way less weight compared to my 1100 as it feels way lighter riding it and moving it around.

Prairie, those numbers are correct and weighed on a digital certified scale accurate to within a pound to 5k lbs. not all sleds were weighed topped off but I can verify the 2014 and 2015 yamaha were weighed full and ready to ride. It was done in my shop by me and verified by two or three others on every sled. Whether you choose to believe the weights is up to you but I know for a fact these weights are accurate along with every individual that brought their sleds to me. It was fun to see the differences between all the makes and models and individual setups, each varied but always fun to see what they actually weigh.

Every one of these "weight" threads seems to skip over the most important fact....where the weight is. I cut a Nytro down to 551 wet and it was still a turd in the steep and deep because the weight was up high. Notice the Viper gas tank is UNDER the seat? That black under the seat isn't paint its the gas tank. Now lower and tilt the engine and you have something.

Last year we both rode boosted Phazers, not much lighter than a Nytro but anybody rode one swore it was 100 pounds lighter, due to weight down low.

So, now our long tracked Viper is less than 30 poiunds heavier than my 2014 M8 and due to the weight balance we don't feel the weight diff between the M8 and Viper. Add turbo with lightweight muffler and take away suitcase muffler and add 1.5 pounds. Need I say more?

Thanks Boostd

Thanks for doing that for everyone to see, I was considering buying a nitro and using the money to lighten it up, but now I am considering strongly to buy a viper and ride it stock plus turbo for a few season until I can purchase some lightweight add ons.
