2015 Ford F-150 (just released)

Ford will be scrambling now with Dodge having a half ton diesel in the works. I don't care what the mags tell you. A twin turbo v8 will straight up drink gas under a heavy load. Diesel is still the way to go for towing.

Sure it is.
While I can NOT speak for you.

99% of my miles are NOT with my trailer behind me though.
I have to drive this beast every single day.

And while the TD RULES on tow days, man it doesn't help me much in the daily grind.

I agree with you in the situation that you are speaking of. I'm the same way. I put on 35k a year and probably only 2k of that is with a trailer. I'm sure it will sell because it will have crazy power numbers. But for the guys that want all that power it will not net the mpg's that guys with oil burners are used to. Loaded or empty.

I agree.
At the end of the day, for BRUTE FORCE, you just can NOT beat a properly tuned up Turbo Diesel!

But that is a steep price to pay for the other 6 days a week of normal driving.

And even then, for most of us towing a sled trailer, do we REALLY NEED the extra powder of the TD???

Most of the guys driving this V6 Ecoboost are singing it's praises.
Imagine how sweet a V8 version of that would be.....

My buddy has an 11 eco boost and was always singing the praises of how great it was from a power and mpg stand point. We traded trucks for a week about 3 months ago and the power was great. Like really really impressive! But I was a little disappointed in the mpg's. He claimed close to 20 but I never saw any better than 17 on the high way and that was slow hiway driving. Like under 65mph. I don't see how adding 2 more cylinders is gonna help out those numbers. :ohwell:

Maybe I'm just so excited about the new half ton diesel I'm just oblivious to anything else. :cheer2:

Not trying to start a pissing contest by any means, but there is a large number of people who simply want no part of driving a Dodge.....even if it is nuclear powered.

I understand what you're saying and I'm sure for a Ford guy this is hard to understand but large amounts of people feel the same way about Ford or Chevy for that matter.

Come on Mafesto, you ride sleds. You should know that all brands have their staunch lovers..... and haters. :D

I agree with you & I am not a hater, I would drive anything.
I've had 4 Dodge trucks since '94, 2 brand new. I was the "Dodge lover".

We have 8 of them at work '96 - '08 and they are capable rigs, but not in the same league as F & GM in the comfort category.

I'm sure someone will chime in with "well you're not talking the new generation".
Well we've heard that each time they change cab styles & it always end up being the same 2nd rate cab, especially after 80,000 plus miles.

But hey, this is just my opinion.

I get where you're coming from. I've had a few too. 2 02's, 03, 04, 06, 08, 12. All different types 1/2, 3/4, 1 tons. All low miles when bought or new and all driven until 150k at least. All have been basically trouble free. My 12 so far has been excellent. Zero issues and about 30k already. I do sometimes wonder if I'm just not that picky though because of all the miles I put on. Like I do 5k a month pretty often so for some people a rattle or squeak that will last months will only last a week or two for me. Often the little things like that just go away before I can get it in to get looked at. idk just a thought.

Ford I'm guessing has several engines. They had a V6 diesel ready to go a relative was casting parts for it on a limited run several years ago before gas prices took a huge jump then they never released it. If dodge gets good sales out of there 1/2ton diesel don't expect GM and Ford to be far behind in releasing one.

My dad has a 11 F150 ecoboost and my brother a 10 F150 3 valve identical specs, tires, driving styles, fill out of the same tank on the farm, and are both around 20k miles. They get identical mileage on a rare ocasion my dads ecoboost will pull a half a mpg on my brother thats it. The ecoboost has more power and is fun to drive but if I towed a lot I'd take a 6.2L. The little he's towed with the ecoboost the mileage is horrible.

On the other hand that concept is one sweet looking pickup and I wouldn't mind one with a V6 5.0L turbo diesel based on the 6.7L if we didn't have the fifth wheel to tow.

What do you guys think.

What are the chances that FORD will release this truck EARLIER than advertised since they have officially shown it at the show?

Could we be looking at the 2014 model or will it really be the 2015??

This new video is SWEET!!

It's visually pleasing, but for my purposes all the plastic cladding may not hold up well.

I was just putting the base coat on that day.

Since Ford will not offer the 3.5 liter ecoboost in the F250/350 I highly doubt they would put out a V8 ecoboost and allow it in the F150. I think you will see this separation as a sales strategy.

If and when the V8 eco comes out I would assume it will replace the 6.2 and since that is in the half tons it will probably be an option. The V8 eco may have a slight impact on the diesel sales, when you buy the F250-F550 pickups your buying a tow rig and torque is king. My lightly tuned 12 F350 runs around 1000-1100lb.ft, the F-150 chassis simply can't handle the larger loads safely even though some try. My work load weighs about 28-30k and about 75% of my miles are towing with my diesel. I've got an 11 F-150 that I use for a run around vehicle, sled deck hauler, love them both.
