2014 Rk-Tek 858

I've read just about all the forums I could find on this kit and pretty impressed, seems like people aren't having problems and the kit refines itself every year.

Well I just bought a 2014 pro and am thinking about this kit or just the Rk-Tek drop in kit.

Anything new or negative within the last year people have heard or experienced????

This will be my first big bore and don't want to have to be messing with tuning every ride.

Heard it go both ways with that kit. Have heard nothing bad about the drop in kit and I run those pistons myself. If you do go the route of BB and need tuning I highly suggest doing a ECU flash over a piggyback system.

Who builds the map and does the ecu flash for the rkt big bores? Thought kelsey always recommended the boondocker control boxes.

I believe that is still correct but I would go with a ECU flash instead as there is no tuning. Corey (Boston Racing) can get you setup. Sorry did not want to change the direction on the OP's question.

RK has very good products. I have heard them run super good and also have heard some issues but that is to be expected as there as many variables. I run his pistons in my turbo sled and love them.

That's fair, sorry to derail!! I always had great results with rkt products as well and hoped there would be a similar pre-built map he could sell as a turn key solution requiring no custom tuning.

Anyways back on track...

kelsey told me you need fuel controller to do the drop in kit on the 13-14 i wonder if anyone has a flash for that

I had one last year and it was awesome. Whatever you do, listen to what Kelsey says. Don't go and try to add reeds, pipes, different fuel controller. The best thing is to call a shop that has actually installed these kits. Supreme Powersports and talk to Jeremy, he has done a bunch of these. and has them dialed.

Also, you need a piggy back. Go with the BD box Kelsey suggest. A reflash isn't going to get you the fuel it needs.:face-icon-small-con

I almost forgot about your posts, again sorry to derail. If a programmer is all that is needed then a reflash can do the same, if injectors are needed then you can add bigger injectors and reflash.

Nothing against BD as we have their system as well on another sled and works but there is still tuning, that's all that I was saying. I have no skin in this game so just my 50 cents.

Kelsey does now his stuff!

The kit needs fuel in specific spots along the RPM/Throttle position and a generic reflash (that I know of) cant pin point those exact spots in the map. Example, you may need to add fuel in certain spots and take away in other by a point or two.

I'd love to hear more about this reflash for the DI kit... I don't know of one that exists... I talked with Boston Racing about this last spring and he only had a reflash for stock sleds. DI kit takes way more fuel than stock.

Agree with you that a reflash can do the same if someone takes the time to write one.

Trying a 858 this year. I will let you know how it compares to stock and turbo... Also in AK also so it should be interesting tuning it. I am running the bd box for fueling.

I would not modify an engine in AK without being able to adjust fueling myself. Fuel maps from the lower 48 rarely work properly and many people have been frustrated with "stand alones" and re flashes that close tuning to the end user.
I second that. Mapping for AK is so much different

Also, go talk to Chad at A2DSledworks about it. He ran it last year and would be able to provide good insight.

I want to run an 858 back to back with my long rod.
Just to know how they stack up.
And again after 500 miles.

That said.
I've ran two skidoo motors with rk tek drop in kits/heads.
That was enough for me.

I guess you will be running at lower altitude in Ak?

We have a dealer here in Norway that has a map dialed in good for the 858 at sealevel, they have used alot of time dynoing this setup. I guess this map might be a better match than the ones provided by RKT?

Contact Geir at HSK for more info, he has helped me out alot with my kit.

Also, they got 170HP on the kit, not bad I would say!

I am running his Re-Flash and larger injectors on my turbo sled so it definitely works. Far from stock and it worked flawlessly. I was able to change my boost from 4 to 8lbs with out any tuning and my AFR stayed right in range for every adjustment. This was on 11/2/2014 with the newest map. Works just as factory would.

AK is harder with our air density.

Chad did try a Prototype 858 (first one) and you can talk to him about his experience.
