2014 Pro RMK or Assault Rmk Help plz

I'm buying a sled this week, the problem is I can't decide between the Pro Rmk or Pro Assault Rmk, I love the idea of belt drive system, but I don't realy like the ski stance and suspension of the rmk even tho I never rode one, The assault, I love everything about it, but the 2.1 inch track makes me wonder if it will be enough? and if its worth skipping over the belt drive system,

I'm a dirt bike fanatic so I will be dropping, jumping, boon docking, hill climbing, side hilling with it, nothing crazy, but I love taking a bit of air if you know what I mean =P probably playing in sand pits when there will be enough snow.

Where I'm from there no mountain just nice hills and about 3 - 5 feet of snow yearly the snow tends to melt a bit during winter so there's a lot of hard pack layers at the bottom usually,

so to me the choice would be an assault but the fact that the rmk has a belt drive and taller track makes second guess myself =S

what would you guys pick if you were me

Assault. It'll be a riot when the snow is packed/harder and take the beating better. You can move the rear suspension up into the tunnel to get on top of fresh deep snow better, similar to the Pro. And if you don't like the track, take it out and swap it for a 2.5" Camo Extreme or someone's 2.4" series 5.1 takeoff from a pro... jmo...

Assault. Belt drive won't be an advantage to you, only a potential liability. You'll never miss it for what you described, and will miss everything about the Assault. Track-wise, the 5.1 is more of a pow track, and does not excel in harder or setup snow. And, tracks are easy to find and replace, you may end up with a Camo 2.5, e.g., instead of the 5.1. Who knows, if you really want the 5.1, someone might swap you one for the 2.1 if you don't want an extra. Maybe a spring order who went with the 5.1 on the Assault and changed their mind. JMHO spending your ching, of course. Good luck, great problem to have!

Sorry tdblakes for any redundancy, we posted at the same time. Kinda spooky...

thx for all the help, to me it would be cheaper to buy this at 950$
https://www.c3powersports.com/content/c3-syncrodrive-2011-2012-polaris-pro-rmk

to make the assault like the Pro and eventually swap the track if I really don't like it,

but another thing that i'm getting stuck onto is most pro rmk and assault guys upgrade there shock anyways

so can anybody tell me if the assault stock suspension is stiff enough to take hard landing? if I have to change the suspension on the assault to might aswell go with the rmk =S

Differences..

Track
Belt drive
Front A-Arm Width
Shocks

For the backcountry that 2.1 is horrible. The width makes it harder for boondocking and carving but better for the trails...

The assault shock are just fine for the most part but if you ride hard you will have to at least re valve them.

You can make the Pro RMK shocks into reservoirs for fairly cheap.

Yes you can buy a belt drive if you want one but heck, guys are changing out there stock belt drives as well just to have some gearing options

the stock calibrations on the assault is fairly stiff. You should be able to crank up the shocks enough, pending your not a 300 rider. If you need to revalve them it is not expensive.
I actually love the stiff assault track, this go around I snowchecked my assault with the Powder track because you can buy assault tracks so cheap.
Alot of guys take it off before even trying them.
For your conditions, I think the assault is the clear winner for you.
thats what they built these sleds for, exactly what you want to do with it!

thx for all the replies this is probably the toughest choice I had to make in a long time lol, I'm leaning a lot toward the assault since realistically the highest hill I'll probably climb around here will be below 1000 feet, and the assault seems to be more the ditchbangner choice, to play on power lines, dropping down pits and jumping, as for riding trees, here the bush is so thick you can't really do miles and miles of tree riding. small fields, power lines, the ditch and sand pits,

I come from a world of dirt bike and short tracks my last sled was a rush with a XC Pro 1 inch 3/4 and all I did was side hilling boon docking, jumping, dropping, I know I was pretty stupid to buy a sled that the purpose was trail riding =P and I thought that sled was super flickable so I can't imagine a sled design for that how easy it will be to boondock even tho the rmk has a slight advantage over the assault

but I got stuck a lot lol so I hope this sled will make it a little bit further then my shorty track =P

any other comments would sure help thx

Assault all the way.
MPO the chain drive will work better for the kind of riding you are planning. Steel drive shaft.
One thing to look at is some front tunnel braces (search) so you don't trash the tunnel right by the foot wells.
Post some picture when it's in the home.

I don't know why there is so much hate for the Comp. Track on the Assault. I love it. But i guess if you ride more in the mountains it would not be as good. But for my riding area, it is an absolute beast of a track to have. It has to be one of the hardest grabbing tracks going. It doesn't matter what is under the fluffy stuff, it bites in and goes. My 13' Assault is by far the best sled going.

P.S. If anyone has a brand new take off Comp. Track. I would be happy to take it off your hands for a spare lol.

I've had both, the assault will fit your style better. Don't worry, that assault is no slouch, you will keep up with your pro buddy's.

I'm going tomorrow to finalize the papers with my dealer, I'll be going with the RMK Assault, sadly I'm not a fan of the 2014 colors, never really been a fan of red I think personally the 13's had the best colors in all the years Polaris made sleds, so I'll wrap her up with a nice Arctic FX wrap,

thx everyone for all the input let there be snow =P
