Anyone have any experience yet comparing the new 2014 5.3 to the 2011/12. I know its got more power, and the cab is much nicer, but what about towing. Does it get any better MPG towing say a 2 place trailer with 2 sleds.
And no I don't want any comparisons with the Ford, etc, thanks for any info

I sell them but I have a lot of time with one. Not a lot towing.

It certainly gets better fuel economy. I did 22 MPG, going 85 one direction about 65 miles and then being stuck in 30-50 MPH bumper to bumper stop and go.

I would say the power of the NEW 5.3l has the same power as the OLD 6.2l

Good solid power band. You can now get a max trailering package with the 5.3l as well, which gives you 3.73 rear end. Make sure you don't get a 3.08 gear ratio.

3.73

That's quite a difference from 3.08 to 3.73. How much does the mileage suffer for the occasional need of towing? Can't the new six speed running in 5th pretty much take care of the rear end ratio?

My 2004 has a huge RPM difference betwen 3rd and 4th gear. I'm assuming the new transmissions are much more evenly spaced and 5th is probably still overdrive?

Not sure off the top of my head. 3.08 is really made to be a parts running truck. Not sure what you mean by your second statement. Yes the 6 speed helps with the gearing but it can't completely make up rear end ratios.
