Subject: 2013 600/800 PRO RMK 155/163 Front Suspension Shock Fastener Replacement

Purpose:

[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Polaris Industries Inc. has determined the incorrect torque was applied to the lower left shock fastener during front suspension assembly on a limited number of Model Year 2013 600 PRO RMK 155 and 800 PRO RMK 155/163 snowmobiles. The incorrect fastener torque could cause the fastener to fatigue and break during operation. If this occurs, the operator could experience unexpected vehicle diving to the left side and/or limited steering which may cause the operator to lose control of the snowmobile. [/FONT]

[/FONT]NOTE: This Safety Bulletin only affects the lower left front suspension shock fastener on a limited number of vehicles. No other front suspension fastener is affected by this bulletin. Please use Unit Inquiry to identify affected units.

In addition to dealers notifying customers, Polaris will be mailing a notification letter to all customers who have taken delivery of an affected unit on or before November 12, 2012. Included with the notification letter will be a Pure Polaris PG&A voucher. A copy of the customer notification can be found on pages four and five.

This is not a recall. It is a service bulletin. Polaris is not asking for sleds to come back to receive an altercation. They are simply notifying the customer.

dealer called today , there sending me the bolt and nut since there 4 hours away. torque is 18 ft/lb.

Polaris is requesting replacement of the bolt. It is only the lower left shock bolt. Proper torque is 18ft/lbs.

If they had under-torqued it yes, but since they are sending out new bolts they obviously set the production line wrench too high and compromised the integrity of the original bolt. Thus replacement is the best option.

They must be high strength bolts and they over-torqued them. Even properly torqued high strength bolts are not supposed to be reused. 18 foot lbs is snug tight on a 1/2" diameter bolt..

First off; Polaris has never used high strength bolts for anything chassis wise (usually grade 3 crap before they went to the metric system in '11). Secondly; it is only a 10 mm bolt. Thirdly; recommended torque for a quality fastener that is 10mm is ~70+ foot pounds.
