2012 SBA fouling plugs...

I have a 2012 SBA with a stage 3 Slp kit. I have run this kit for 1100 miles and sled has 2400 miles. Thursday I went to load it on the trailer to go to west Yellowstone and it was running on one cylinder; I changed plugs and it ran fine. I got to west Yellowstone this afternoon unloaded and it ran fine. We drove around town getting stickers and went to dinner. After dinner came out an started it and it was on one cylinder again. Changed plugs and ran fine. It went 2.5 miles. It doesn't seem to be down on power. Home elevation is 1500 feet. It malfunctioned there as well as here in west Yellowstone. Nothing was changed as far as electrical or fueling changes.

I have the same thing going on with my 12 sba(stock). Seems to be blowing alot of black crap out the pipe and smoking more. Fouled two plugs just loading and unloading off the trailer. First was while it was warming up to load up and head home. Then when I get home, warms up fine(85-90 degrees) so I take it for a spin. I shut it off for maybe 15 minutes, and when I fired it back up it fouled the plug again. Also i noticed my rpms varying around from 1500-1900(when it stays running). Odd time when I would put it into reverse the sled would just die. Thinking my tps is out again so off to the dealer tomorrow morning. Heading to Cooke City tuesday so I hope to get this straightened out.

also my elevation is 1500ft at home and my sled just turned over 2000 miles

Theres a few people around here with sba's that have the same issue also. My friend has a 2011 and he's even had the injectors changed and it still blows plugs. Seems like an ongoing issue with the sba's. Have never heard of this with any of the rmks around here.

Pto side plug every time. Looks wet. Put 70 miles on yesterday and it ran pretty good never fouled one. I was nervous every time I started it though. It always sounded like it was about to have an issue and then it managed to run just fine after a little blip of the throttle. Do these things ever have issues with great elevation changes? Still can't figure out why it fouled two sets so close to each other.

I had the same issue on my 2011 800 RMK. It would foul plugs pretty much every ride. It seemed that it would foul a plug after I had shut the sled off for a bit. Compression was good and TPS was good. I got new injectors installed and it ran good for one ride, second ride it fouled a plug again. Now this weekend after going through 2 sets of plugs in one day the engine siezed, I guess that was the problem. The sled only has about 900 miles.

Ok, I am going to be the bearer of bad news....you need a top end rebuild.

I fought the same thing last year on my Stage III kit and could not believer I needed a rebuild. Rings were chipping and flaking. Sled ran great before the kit. Put the kit on and it would foul plugs when cold. If I could get it to warm up, it would run but not much better if any better than stock sled.

My dealer was told by somebody, No-names mentioned but they know who they are, that the top end was toast and what to check or look for. Dealer mechanic called me up 2 hours later and told me it was exactly as he was told it would be. Rings were shot. Rebuilt and I went back to stock and it ran fine until the day I traded it in.

I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but I only 1000 miles on mine when I put on the Stage III kit and it started fouling.

I have ran my stage three for
Over 900 miles. I am doubtful on needing a rebuild as it has out pulled a m8ho and a new etec(not brand bashing just cold hard facts). Tps is good based on the home built "tester" with all components in spec. Pc5 is calibrated to sled tps. I ran all day today and it ran well...not perfect but well. When I start it it sounds like it wants to die but it doesn't. After about three seconds it idles normally and runs fine. I am overall very happy with the Slp kit....however I will be riding a polaris outfitted with Indy Dans longrod..better warranty then I currently have from polaris and my buddy with a longrod is pulling the same weights as I am with identical gearing...and he has stock pipe and silencer....

Time to pull her down. Post a pic of what the piston looks like please. Now we need to find out why it happened and fix that too.:face-icon-small-ton

Well I stopped in at the dealer today to check out my damage, mag side cylinder looked fine. Never seen my mag side piston, but pto side was trashed. I was actually surprised that it still ran after looking at it! A small piece of the lower ring broke off. some of the ports on the cylinder got it pretty good as there were good sized chunks missing. The head also got trashed. The piston had alot of scuffing on the sides, and im not sure if that caused the ring to break? sorry i never got any pictures of the piston
