2012 RMK 800, clutching for Togwotee

Just picked up a 2012 Pro RMK 800, and I am heading to Tog in March. Polaris is calling for 60 gram weights, and the black/purple secondary spring for 8-10000 feet. Should I get this combo, or is there something that is working better?
 
I've been doing a ridiculous amount of testing on my 2012 Pro 155 and have found that the stock helix with the black/purple and 60 gram weights with stock 140/330 primary is very difficult to improve on at 8,000' to 11,000'. I have seen some 163's struggling a bit at high elevation with this set-up, some have gone to 10-58's or custom ground 10-60's taken to 59 grams. 8,000 to 8,050 RPM's is where you want to be. Polaris's book clutching is right on with the Pro.
 
I agree with this and I have also come to the same conclusion after trying different setups. Carls clutch kit does work good , but stock Polaris specs work pretty good also.
 
I was out in Island Park two weeks ago, I am running 10-60's with the stock secondary spring and saw 8300 to 8400 most all the time on a hard pull, I am heading out to Tog on Saturday and I might try running 10-62's and stock secondary spring, any comments to that? I also have the blk/purp spring for secondary just haven't tried it yet. I thought I would get some miles on it before I start changing things.

PS: I thought you would never get rid of your 600?

The only thing I would double check is the primary spring, as it seems a few (mine inclucuded) say 140 when they are really a 165. The 165 will engage at about 4300-4500 which makes it tough to creep thru the trees.
 
Just got back from Tog after 6 days of riding.

'12 Assault with 5.1 track.

100mi and 9 hrs (Cooke City miles/hours) on sled when I got to Togwotee.

Ran same setup as Cooke. Per Polaris for 8-10K. 10-60 weights and springs it came with from factory. I was pulling 8300. I was going to try 10-62s, but never got around to it.

A buddy that was working out there for the last 3 mos (working at Tog rental shop) on his personal '12 Pro-155 was also running 10-60s. He was pulling 8200-8250 everywhere. Mine seems a little stronger.

Regardless, just follow Polaris recommendations and run 10-60s you should be spot on!

My first question would be is your sled stock? Or do you have some mods. I just returned from there, My set up was perfect but Im not stock.
The black and purple secondary, black in the primary, with 60gr. wieghts should be Just about right for Tog. You should have no problems pulling your R's..

I feel that a stock sled will not pull 62's at that elevation.

I would have a set of 58's and 62's just to play it safe. but my money is on the 60's.. J

I've also found that the stock black secondary spring works fantastic up to 9,500', but if you get in a situation where you're making a long steep trenching belt heating heavy snow pull from 9,500' to 11,500' you will want the black/purple.

My findings as well, almost to the T. Either Polaris got lucky with their recommendations or actually did some real world testing. I found my sled will pull 62's right up to 7800-8000 feet, then will start to lag. Same findings on the blk purple. I have rode one other "custom clutch set-up" and definitely could not find the justification of the extra couple hundred bucks.

Well I think I found out why it was turning 8300 to 8400 rpm, the clutch spring was broke, with less than 300 miles on it too.

Mine runs high in the U.P with 10-68's (balanced clutch) between 8300-8450. So I just got back from the snowies running 10,000-11,500 feet running 8100- 8250 with 10-60s. I ran stock springs and helix. Did not change the secondary spring even though the guide recommends. Ran great up there. Oh yeah, you may want to install a thin delrin washer under the spring. You can get them from indydan. My primary spring broke up in the snowies.
 
I have a set of 10-70's I will try up in da yoop the next time I am up there.

Maybe I should pick up a new primamry spring before I go out there also. LOL.

I see Tog is getting hammered with snow, can't wait to get out there!!

When you going to Island Park. You many be out there the same time we are if Moms is hauling your stuff out.

I am going to tryy 10-60's but bring 10-62. I would rather be a little high on RPM than low.

Sxrlar, I would bring 10-68's to the U.P. as well. My buds doesn't quite run as high RPM as mine does. 10-70 may be a little heavy but can be ground. I had indy dan balance my clutch and everything.
