2012 M1100 turbo clutch question

So I have a 2012 M1100 turbo running 3.5 lbs. over stock boost. Sled works pretty good except for blowing belts. I now have the Mds weights and 36/42 helix. Cluthcing is better than stock but still far from good. I am sure most of the problem is the belt getting sucked down into the secondary. This does two things. It either bottoms out on the rough edges of the helix and explodes or just makes the belt loose and slips causing heat. MY seconary spring is stock blue. Cant I just put a heavier spring in so it will hold the belt in the secondary instead of slipping? Some guys are having good results with the team clutch which backs up my suspision that the problems are slippage in the secondary. Anyone know the rates for the stock blue spring and what other springs are available for this clutch. I could just order an new team clutch but I think that this is fixable with stock clutch. Any comments are welcome.

We use a cat orange or the cat titanium with a 38/46. With a prolific belt blower we have not found a clutching set up that will cure 100% of them. Racinstation has pretty much covered the topics of the hows and whys of the belt issue. There are many causes and anyone could have 1 or several combinations of issues. That's what makes it so hard to have a blanket fix.

I am stocking a bunch of Team's if you can't get it nailed down.

What is the rate for the orange spring you have used? Also does anyone know the rate for the stock spring. The m1100 non turbo sled also uses the same secondary spring. No wonder its to light for a sled running 220hp.

I'll check and post. If I remember right it isn't a bunch stiffer but it's a little longer.

How does the orange handle the binding going on in these pos secondaries? Got one laying around from my m1000 is it the same.

We took the 2ndry apart, chucked it up in a lathe and opened up the spring pocket on both ends about .080. Made a .040 cut. Really dont think it will compromise the integretty of either piece.

Thinking of doing the same thing, please post results.

Have heard of flatlanders maching pockets out and using a doo spring with good results although they were machining sheaves also I believe.

I was wondering too, the Cat info says stock blue #0648-813 is 202 - 284 and the orange #0648-774 is 175 - 280. Is there a stiffer Cat spring we can use?

I now use the dalton green gold 185/320 seems to have stopped my slipping belt.

It's been a while since I looked at all this last year but I want to say the orange is a little longer so at the same compression of the clutch it would be a higher rate. You have to go aftermarket, like Dalton, for higher rates than Cat.

I'm not saying you can't improve the stock clutch on some blow blowers without replacing the clutch but most that have gone thru quite a few belts are done with the experimenting and just want to ride. With the binding of the bushing, amoung other things, a stiffer spring will resist that somewhat but will do nothing for uneven clutch faces, short belts, and more severe binding of the bushings IMO.

The 36 42 helix does not load the motor hard enough through the initial shift. Go back to the stock helix and see if your belt life is better.

I switched back to the stock helix for a half a day and my track speed on a climb suffered a lot. Put the 36/42 back in and gained about 5-7 mph track speed hill climbing.
