2011 Pro RMK Scratchers VS Wheel Kits

I recently purchased a new Pro RMK 155 and was wondering if any of the guys who have had theirs out and ran them have had any preference either way on scratchers VS the Accessory wheel kits you can buy from polaris. My buddy put the wheel kits on his 2010 dragon and hasnt had any issues but just wanted to see if anyone out there has any thoughts or solid ideas as to what is better or worse.
 
I have the same Pro and have 130 miles so far. I say no wheels these run hot and the scratchers help with cooling. So far no problem with highfax and have been in hardpack to 4 feet bottomless. I think you should save your money untill you have 200 miles then check your highfax if you have problems then add wheels. PS love mine hope you feel the same after you get going.
 
i generally remove all the wheels on mine, it'll wear the hyfax out fast, but i put the hyperfax ones on and the ones i've used so far don't wear. i won't run without scratchers cause they cool the engine down so much, if you back up with scratcher you get to buy a new set too!
 
i vote no wheels... just run scratchers. I've done that for years and have never had a problem. just pay attention to your sled and if you see it getting hot, get off the trail for a second or start dragging your feet to thro more snow.

Wont run these two much in wisconsin, but the other thing is you can but up to 4 more wheels on the rails(2 Sets) But if you add the second set you need to remove the scratchers to install them. From the sounds of it i will put the rear set on, leave the scratchers on and give that a try for the first run. Headed to Montana this weekend. Thanks for the advice guys.

The key with scratchers is to actually use them. I see so many dudes with scratchers that are never down, or not down unless it's glare ice. I run mine on the road in and out basically everytime unless there is 6" ++ fresh snow. 2200 miles same hi-fax (still 1/2 left), same scratchers, 159x16x2.5 track, no bogie. Why not use them if they're installed already? Maybe long-distance trail running is different, don't do too much of that...

The wife and I both had '09 Assaults, I added mounting holes to her rails, just behind the OEM wheel placements, so she had both the wheels, and the OEM scratchers.

I pulled ALL my "extra" wheels, and ran SideKicks Scratchers.

I always had my SideKicks down, as that is how they are designed to run.

She would rarely remember to put her scratchers down, and most likely was not as apt to go off into the duff every mile or so to get some snow in her skid.

After 1500 Alaska miles (20% trails to get to the 80% mountain runs) both of our sliders showed almost equal wear, with the majority being directly under our a$$es.

I replaced them and we put another 1200 miles on and the wear was about the same again.

So I say it is a wash, one just needs to be vigilant with either setup.

Sounds cheesy, but I pulled mine 'cuz I though the skid looked sleeker without the wheels.
 
Save your money and always run the scratchers if the trail is packed or groomed. Remember to put them up when off trail, loading, or in reverse and you wont have a problem. Seems the wheels just saves the hifax only where the wheels are and the wear wavy up and down instead of all evenly with scratcher. Hyperfax requires the clipping of ALL the windows. I found out first hand why. Don't bother. The stockers are just fine and cheaper. Anyone wanting a black set (SLP Hyperfax) in great condition let me know!

Actually, on the Pro's the wheels will fit fine with the scratchers on. The middle set is designed to be mounted inside the rail. That way you can run all 6 wheels and scratchers.

I have run scratchers and wheels on my last 2 sleds but what I also do is finish clipping the track. Installed new sliders on the 2001 at 7800 miles and they were only 1/2 worn and I have 2400 miles on a 2008 Dragon with no signs of wear. Just clipped my new Pro 155 (takes 54 clips and took about a hour) but will not add any wheels. I feel that rubber and plastic like to heat more than metal and plastic in low snow conditions.

I added a middle one on the inside and will use scratchers too on my 163.
