2010 Summits have gained weight!

Just got my 2010 Spring Fever catalog, and the Summit's have gained around 20-lbs average across the board for dry weight. The only big difference in the models are shocks and suspension tweeks, can that really add 20-lbs? Glad I have my 09's!

09 Summit 50th Anniversay Edition (930-miles)
09 Summit-X 154 Black/Blue (0-miles, picking her up today!)

according to the 09 book and BRP its 12# on the summits--dealer didnt here anything about a weight gain at dealer show last week---more honest dry weight or did they gain a little ????????????:(

I'm going for honesty... Doo always fudges the numbers on weight. XPs are still probably the lightest sled out there, but M8s seem to be getting pretty close and in 2010 they are packing a m1000 muffler. easy to drop 12lbs with just a lightweight can. Should put the XP and the M8 within in few lbs of each other. Cool there is such good choices out there now for light and fast sleds. :D

I remember when the XP was put on a scale (dry) here on the forum, they were with in a pound or two of advertised weight. I know, there was that arguement of dry vs. wet, either way ski-doo has the lightest mountain sled. With the added weight of the 2010, maybe it will be easier for the others to catch up.

They gained more than 2 pounds in 09 with the new seat foam and for 2010 the x models only have chrome moly lower a-arms and steel upper. The shocks may also be heavier.

You would think more lower a-arms get bent and it would be better to have them the cheap steel?

I once heard that painting a tunnel adds a couple pounds too, hard to believe?

Anybody know if they are getting the nun re-inforcements that the snowcrossers use?

WTF is skidoo doing? Weight and rider position are the ONLY two things they have going for them and now they are pissing one of them away. Glad I have an 08, this is fricken stupid. There is room for skidoo to get 20 plus pounds off the 10, and they added weight?? I hope they lose #1 in sales for that!!

I think they started beefing some components up for a 1200, then the economy dumped, and they delayed the 1200. But, I noticed Snowest missed it entirely in their latest magazine, of the 2010 models. (at least I couldn't find a reference to weight anywhere) What's up with the journalistic research department?

Seriously, adding weight is total bs. The XP doesnt need beefed up, if you break it, ride a lead sled until you learn to miss stuff. A heavy sled isnt good for anything other than a boat anchor and Skidoo is now moving towards that. No 2010 for me, my dad, or my brother. Nice job Doo

Easy bud, I would pretty well guarantee that the 10's are the same weight as the 08's and 09's were. The 09's out of the box were a huge improvement over the 08's. Might be a good idea to trade up before the chitty clutch bushings on your 08 fail and you have to replace rollers , bushings, and spring tower cap, I would also be concerned with no warantee left on the 08 probably 2000 to 3000 miles on your sled if you are out ridin and not on the c so you could count on doing the top end this year as well. If you do have 2- 3000 miles on your 08 then your clutch bushing have been pouched for some time now. The 09's are better and the 10's will be no different!! Just some random thoughts to help you out.

and no 800 E-tec or 4 stroke??? Or 1000? I thought 2010 was going to be a release year for some cool powerplants from Ski doo.. Disapointed. Might have to go Yamaha next year..

I tell what they are doing they are setting us up for 2011 saying how they dropped 25lbs and marketing will be all over this. In all actuality it will be 5lbs lighter then 2009!

That's why I just bought another 09. FYI, heard from a reliable source that e-tek for the 800 will be out in a couple of years... maybe 2011 or 12.

Not just more accurate numbers.

The are a number of parts that were beefed up in the front suspension and module assemblies for better reliability that added weight. Another thing that has changed is the summit tracks will be fully clipped. I have not seen any problems with the half clipped tracks. I don't know why they did this? At least Doo is being truthful with there weights and admitting they have added weight for strength. It is always a compromise and they can never make all happy. Some whine cause they smoked a rock and it bent, and some say it should be lighter. There will never be a 400 pound industructable sled from a major manufacture. Come fall there will be a complete list of changes with reasons why in the 2010 technical update book that all DOO dealers get.

oookay, so how many miles before you are recommending that clutch bushings get replaced on an '08?

I have over 4000 on it. Already done all the clutching, done the topend...twice. We have two 08 and an 09. Whoever thinks the 09 works better than a properly working 08 in the hills is a ding bat. My dads 08 is a good one, never broke a belt, no electronic problems and my bros 09 is not up to the 08 in the mountains. Just these two sleds, no work done to either. My 08 had its problems, but it is solid now. No need to upgrade, if you can call needing to buy clutch components, pipe and can, head, and venting to make it run an upgrade...

O ya, and now for 2010 you have to buy 2k worth of lightweight **** to get it to 08 weight. So for 2009 doo gave us clutch components that dont have the ability to work well in the mountains, and for 2010 they added a bunch of weight...can someone explain to me why the newer sleds are better? Not trying to be an ***, I just dont get it. They 08 clutching was ok with added weight and bracing. They needed to fix the oil tank, electric issues and it was rock solid. Instead they give us a bunch of other garbage.
