2010 RMK Dragon 800, Yea or Nay

So, I'm in the market for a new sled. I'm currently riding a '04 Summit 600...

With the factory rebate the local dealer is selling RMK 800's for $7700 and Dragons for $8800.

At those prices it's tough to not become a Polaris guy. What should I know about these sleds?

Thanks,
~Turk

What specifically makes it a waste of money? I understand the the Pro is the latest and greatest. But is it 3 grand better? If I'm getting the latest and greatest it isn't going to be an RMK.

Buy a poo 700, the 8's still have issues. Dealers are blowing them out for a reason. If you not a hill climber you don't need the 5-10 extra hp. You will only notice the power difference between the 7 and 800's on a big hill.

That I have to disagree on, being a D8 owner my self. They might still have a few issues yes. Install a PC5 and one issue is taken care off, add extra ground for your electronics, vent/add a fan for the VR heat issue and you have the main problems fixed. Once fixed the D8 is a great sled! I hated mine! I did 5 motors, two VR's and ECM's on it in 1200 miles. Got the problems fixed and it's been just awesome the last 800 miles.

As for the power... Well I'm used to riding my D8, when I get on a 700 CFI there is a huge difference. The 700 has a weak power band when compared to a D8. 700 is a good running sled no doubt, but you do notice the lack of power in comparison to a D8, all through out the power band. I couldn't get my self to own a 700. My .02 cents

2010 yea

From what i understand, the 2010 800 have the engine problems worked out for the most part. Also remember the pro is a first year sled, so it might have problems too. I bought a 2010 dragon last week because i couldn't justify an extra $3000 and at the level I'm riding, i probably didn't even need that. Also, the sled comes with a one year warranty and you can buy more years if you want them. If you are really worried about the engine problem, get a 700. Either sled would be a big step up from your 600 summit but from what it sounds like, your a ski-doo guy, I found some dealers in Salt Lake City selling 2010 holdover xp's for about $8800. Oh, and if you do go with the dragon, get that price down to at least $8500, I got mine for $8300 after the rebates and most places are selling for about $8500.

I loved my 2010 d8 when i had it. It ran awesome. Your getting the sled for such a great deal, go ahead and get yourself a power commander 5 and you will have no issues with that sled and you will get yourself a couple extra ponies.

Naaa I'm not a Ski-doo guy... I'm a good sled guy. :face-icon-small-hap

Back when I first got my Summit, it felt the best and I liked the Rev chassis. I'm not sold on the XP. I had to rip the sway bar out of the Rev to get it to lay over with easy and if the XP is the same way... I don't want anything to do with it. I also don't like the feel of the XP. Can't really put my finger on exactly what it is about the XP I don't dig.

Honestly, it's a toss up right now between a new M8 which seems to be tried and true in regards to reliability. Or, a 2010 Polaris 800 and save a little coin and possibly dealing with issues. One thing that makes getting the Polaris is that the problems seem to be well known and there seems to be fixes to all of them.
