2010 Polaris RMK 800 Oil Consumption

Looking for some help and expertise! Its been a problem since I bought the sled and Polaris wasn't willing to budge or help me out. I just took my sled out for its first ride of the season and rode 73 miles, problem is I went through an entire tank of oil and had to cut my ride short because of that.

Is there an adjustment on these sled's to turn down the oil consumption just a little so I can get more out of my sled in a day?

Would appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Yes pull your air box and throttle bodies and you can access the jam nuts on the oil pump cable which is located on the back of the block. You will need a small mechanics mirror so you can see calibration marks.

Oil pump questionable

There is a little adjustment that can be made to the oil pump but it sounds like your oil pump is stuck in the open position. When I first bought my sled (used) I would go through a tank of oil to half a tank of fuel. I was easy to see as there was a huge cloud of smoke continually around me. I was fogging everything in sight. I tried to adjust the oil pump but still went through a lot of oil. I finally changed the oil pump. Problem solved.
It is a bit tricky to change but just take your time. You will need a mirror to view the pump as it is on the bottom of the engine. To adjust the oil pump requires two 10 mm stubby wrenches bent at a 90 degree angle.

Best of luck,

Jonathan

I never had to use a bent wrench i just used a single stubby 10mm wrench. If your pumps calibration marks are aligned and your still using all that oil you will have to pull your motor and change your pump. last year a friends 800 pump was stuck open internally and the adjustment marks were correct. I just changed my pump last month

Good luck!

It may be worth adjusting the pump first to see if oil consumption changes. I tore my CFI-4 800 down for inspection and fresh pistons a couple summers ago and intentionally adjusted my pump for more oil. I didn't move the index mark more than 1/16" beyond where I had been running it and the first ride out, my oil light was on before I was through 1 tank of fuel. I re-adjusted the pump and things were back to normal. Unless your pump is stuck, I suspect you won't have to adjust the arm very far to get back to reasonable consumption. I agree with the suggestions about having a "stubby" wrench to make the adjustment (I cut a cheap 10mm wrench in half), as there is very little room to work due to close proximity of the bulkhead.
