I have a 2010 450 SXF as well and have 2 seasons on it. I have a FMF Q4 slip on with factory header sounds great, pod filter and last year installed a JD jet kit and at first put in the recommended red needle and jetting as per the instructions. Didn't work great so I talk with JD and they told me to run the blue needle for winter and snow riding, I can't remember the jets they told me but I used all the settings they said and WOW!! What a difference, the bike now flat out rips!!

I did have a couple days where carb icing was an issue and I am going to get the Avid carb heat kit also. One thing I think you should do and this is my opinion, is put in the JD kit and talk to them and tell them what you are doing and where you are riding and they will set you up, put on the carb heat kit, pod filter and you will have a bike that works awesome!! You won't need the smart carb, put that money towards other cool stuff... Again my opinion

Still waiting for my fit kit... ERRRRRR!!! Here are some pictures of the front wheel dolly i made yesterday.

Wheels - $12 each
4x4 post - $12 (8 footer)
28" of 1" hot roll - $5
washers - $1

I machined the ends of the shaft down to half inch for the wheels. Any machine shop would be able to turn the ends down in under a half hour.

Definitely yes on the scratchers. Cheap spring ones are fine and bolt on in 5 minutes. Deploy for all trail riding unless there is a few inches of untracked fresh on top. You'll not have to worry about hyfax wear for a loooooong time.

I blew the clutch up on the last dirt ride of the summer. the basket it still good. my clutch slave cylinder needs a rebuild kit tho. Not sure what caused it to start leaking. Waiting on parts. Dieing to ride this beast.

-A neoprene carb jacket on a 450 4 stroke is near impossible. If someone has a picture of a jacket installed on a 450 id like to see.
-Avid Carb heater was easy to install after i filed and cut some material away to make clearance. (I butchered it more than i needed to)
-Avid thermostat kit is not as easy, but it is do-able on a 4 stroke. I had to re-route the housing off to the side because there is not enough room to do it the same way as the 2 strokes. The avid guys have been super duper helpful!!! I believe you wont have to track down the two 3/4" 90 degree elbows because they will send them with the kit if you plan to side mount it.

I installed my carb heater as well last night, will have the T-stat hooked up tonight. Did you plumb the return line going to the water pump into the line coming out of the left side rad? I think that is where I will tie it in. The T-stat is tricky on the 450 SXF for sure.
