2010 head squish....

Looking at the original thread, they recommend .055" minimum squish. If you have an aftermarket head with .055" squish with stock pistons, it will be too tight with "the fix" Wisecos. They claim to be within .005" of the stock pistons squish, but I am thinking it is more like .010".

Just wondering what slightly more is, as far as a number is? Going to order my PMS kit next week and a Power Addition head as well. 12.5 was recommended for the PA head for my 3000-5500' riding elevation. How much higher will the PMS kit make it? 1/4 point at most? Was not wanting to go higher than 12.5 overall.

Don't forget about Ted at Terra Alps.

He has a couple different piston options with a billet head and any dome combo you want. He uses a Pro-X piston or a Suzuki piston.

I like Brad's head, I just thought it might be better to use a "kit" that is designed together rather than matching parts from different vendors.

Porting is an option. I can tell you that a Carls ported 800 CFI is much better running than a stock 800 CFI. Something to think about.

Tried to get in contact with Terra Alps a fews times over the past month or so. New number from website is out of service and the old one answers like a fax. Not sure what is up so, I ordered the PMS kit, a week tomorrow. Want to add a Power Addition head (12.5) at some point. Will check the squish on the stock updated setup before I put the PMS kit in. Will recheck after install. Porting was eliminated from the equation. There was no room left in the budget. What I am doing was hard enough to get passed you know who.:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo

My FIX kit should be in my hands sometime next week. I need some clarification/input on a few things though. The 08/09 heads were about 13:1? The update head brought it down to about 12:1. If the FIX kit increases the compression say to 12.25:1, what would be the benefits of going to a 12.5:1 Power Addition head. I have never ran an aftermarket head before and now having more time to think about it, not sure about it. I only want to have to run 91 gas. Hearing what the FIX has done for everybody's engine as far as run ability goes is a head necessary? Again I run 3000-5500', SLP single, PCV, west coast Canada.

If i remember right the 2010 updated head was 11.1 ratio. if i am wrong i will corrected pretty sure it's right.

Anybody know what the compression ratio was on the D8 08/09 engines before the piston/head update? What is the ratio now after the piston/head update? Thanks...

the original was 13.1 and the update is 11.1.. Call and talk to Brad he is very knowledgable about these sled's and he is more then willing to help get us in the right direction. I am going to be installing his 13.1 head with the fix kit but i ride 4500 and up in Idaho.

Thanks....I would think Curt at Fastrax would be another good source. I better be calling one or both this week.

I just installed a Power Addiction head, the 13.1. My stock 2010 updated engine had 130psi and .070" squish. It now has 143psi and .065" squish.

By your post your machine/engine is 2010? I should have my kit by the end of the week hopefully. I will check my stock squish this weekend. My sled is an 09 and cylinder is .010" shorter and that then would make the squish on my Power Addiction head .055". Right where Brad says it should be. Will measure everything carefully though. Can't move my machine from storage until I get my new BBoards & Bars and install them. Nothing to stand on!!!!!:face-icon-small-sho Should all be done by end of September.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-hap

My sled is an '08, but the engine was replaced in early '10. So, who knows what I really have going on! I figure the .065" and 143psi should run good for me as I basically have everything in a SLP stage 3 kit at this point.

Crazy how a guy adds a little here and there. May just as well of taken the plunge and bought a SLP stage 3/4 kit in the first place. Hope your machine runs great, anticipating good times with mine!!!

Yeah....know the feeling there...

I just got off the phone with Ted...spoke for about an hour. He answered on the 3rd ring. 778-478-9955. I just figured you might be closer.

Got my "FIX" kit yesterday. BBoards & Bars are still on there way. Going to measure my stock squish this weekend and then talk to Curt at Fastrax about the PAddition head.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

Just got back from my storage area where I measured the squish on my '09 Dragon c/w 2010 Head and 2 ring pistons. All four measurements were .069". "Fix" kit is supposed to be with in .005" of this stock measure. That would put it at .064" at its tightest. Will phone Curt at Fastrax Monday AM to find out about a Power Addition head with this squish measurement in relation to its recommended .055". Can I have more than the .055"?

Called Curt this AM to find out what has to be done to install a Power Addition head on a "FIX" Kit. This may also apply to all or other aftermarket heads as well, I am not sure. Knowing my stock squish with the update 2010 head is .069", I also need to do a "Install Head CC" and squish measurement with the Wiseco pistons installed. Fastrax has a UTube video of how to do a CC measurement on their Website. With this info Curt will then be able set the squish and desired compression ratio accurately in the new Power Addition head. Hope this helps others that may want to put one of these heads on with this Kit.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
