2010 dragon

Hello all, doing some pre season stuff to the sled pulled my stock exhaust off and took a look at the pistons, Mag side mabey half inch from bottom ring starts a whole bunch of little scars/lines ,the longest one bout 1inch. I cant feel any of the lines exept the long one but even that one you really have to rub softly to feel it. still got warrenty what should i do, is it something to worry about.

shoulda taking valve out for a better shot but from the top of piston down to 1/2 to 3/4 inch below the rings it looks good ,then this WTF 20hrs on the machine

Looks like the pistons scuffed the cylinders. Take it in for warranty work before the season starts and they may put a new top end on it.

Do a search for the Fix Kit or let Polaris warranty it.

That's how it starts then this is what you get (see picture). This is what happens when new pistons are installed in bad cylinders. I bought this sled then took it home to tear down to intall the "Fix" from MTN TEK. I about fell over when i seen this. These where brand new (see the ink on top!) $400 dollars worth of stock pistons that where installed (not by me) in cylinders that were not in spec. This is from nothing more than shop break in time!
I ended up getting re-nik'd cylinders from Millenium, which I feel are better than stock. The new cylinders spec'd out to be within .0003 (three ten-thousands) from the smallest to largest measurement using a bore gauge and calipers. We measured each cylinder 8 ways including cross measurements. i then installed the Wiseco pistons that come in the kit, etc. etc.

Here's the deal, it you still have warranty, my suggestion is that you have them sub the stock pistons towards your "FIX" kit pay a few extra bucks and do it right. Do not use your stock cylinders, get re-nik'd cylinders and make sure everything is measured to spec. Cylinder spec, piston clearance and ring gap must be correct. All of those specs are in the kit's spec sheet.

Good luck,
Ken

Take it in, get it fixed underwarrenty and sell it.....sorry but i've seen to many failures in these engines, the 2010 changes are nothing more than a bandaid applied to a severed artery.

Only 2 options, the "fix" kit or the carls 860 deal.

Thats too bad, i went from a 98 670x 136 to this, so i instantly fell in love with the handling, power and track length. To bad, thought i may have got one of the good ones.
Wonder if my dealer will give me a decent penny to trade for a pro?

I know how you feel, BUT, it may not be a total loss. You can still take advantage of your warranty and get it fixed RIGHT!
There are a lot of the MTN TEK "Fix" sleds running with great success. It seems almost impossible, but I have not heard of a single failure when done right. Your cylinders might be alright but you better have someone check them that you trust if not yourself. You just don't want to throw good parts at bad. It never works (see again my other post).

Has anyone looked into running the 2011 Pro Pistons? Went into my local dealer and he said to run them in my 2010 D8. Just wanted to see if anyone else has, told me the skirts are heavier and that the pistons fit tighter.
