So I am new to Polaris, been rideing Revs for awhile now. Sled is bone stock other than a vent kit. Only pulls 7900 rpms, was told when I picked it up to expect this till the sled got about 300 miles or so then it will wake up and run hard. Sled has just a touch over 100 miles now. Running with the ethonal switch unpluged. Any thoughts about this. Thanks Dino

Sparkplugs

The last Pol I had was a 98 700, I couldnt keep the Champion plugs from fouling out, switched to NGK and that ended that. Still running the Champions in the D8. Are you guys switching plugs over to NGK? And if so what # ? Thanks Dino

Tack, you need to get 2 Delrin washers.. One on each side of secondary spring. Also new weights & spring in your primary. I jumped 2-300 R's with just that.. I am now changing Helix for cooling, track speed... not sure what this new helix will do as far as r's... what elevation you ride & how much do you weigh with gear?

I used to spin 8100 - 8350 rpm's prior to update, can't get anymore than 7900 - 8050 now, tried 87 w/ ethanol, 93 without ethanol, different weights and in all different conditions. I'm still trying to find that extra 1 - 200 rpms cause it sure feels like the motor could use it.

what do you have for weights & spring in primary? also what elevation?

I weigh in at 210 # with gear, I ride at 2200 to 6000 mostly. Dino

Dino, if the sled is new, or the motor is newly "updated" with new top end, give it some miles. Then, before diving in to the whole clutching arena (there are some great posts on here about that, aksnowrider? posts), check the clutching in your sled vs. the stock clutching chart that comes with the sled. That is the best starting point. From there you can start monkeying with primary weights and springs and secondary springs and helix.

My 08 D8 sled came from Tri City Polaris and had lighter weights than my wife's 08 D7 from Kurt's Polaris in Seeley... same secondary helix, same primary spring. When I called TCP I found out they put a lighter spring in the secondary and lighter weights in the primary and it should be right for my elevation when I told them my riding elevation. I have about 100 miles on the update and despite snow conditions I have seen > 8200 RPM. Stock pipe and can and Polaris Blue for break-in in the oil tank. But that is not necessarily typical results.

Mine was the same, about 7900 and then at about 250 miles, she woke up! Now Im pulling 8250 and having a blast. It is an amazing sled. Dont give up on it. See what happens when you hit the 300 miles.

Well, I've got 400 miles on mine since the engine update and my rpm's have not changed, still 7900 - 8000.

i was pissed when i got my d7 it was a turd i thought i made a huge mistake about 300mi it woke up alot give it time

Not Giveing Up

Hell I havent rode it enough to get used to it. Quite a bit differant ride than the Rev. Havent bothered to call the dealer and whine about it, I will give it some miles as I am headed north to ride for two days. Should be close to the 300 mile mark by then. I figered I would go till 500 miles then start looking at my clutching. Was good to hear some say it woke up with a few miles on it. Thanks for the help :beer; Dino

Dont wait for miles to hope R's come... in lower elevation you can run with a couple different Slp primary springs & go with MTX 65 Gram weights (you will have enough rivot weight to adjust up to 71 grams if needed) play with the rivots in the belly not the tip to start... try with no weight & work your way up to see what RPMs do.. 3/16 drill bit & cordless drill to drill out rivots if needed...

I dialed in last week in a few hours with MTX 62 & Blue/Pink SLP spring... Also the Delrin washers on both sides of secondary spring seems to help... I'm riding at 8000-12000' of elevation so my weights are lighter than for low elev. *Spring, Weights, Delrins: will run you about $100.00 but worth the $$ for sure... Give it a try you should like it if you get the recommended SLP spring for your elevation....

68's w/ stock spring, tried 70's, same rpm but felt doggy on the low end, put the 68's back in. 1000 - 1500 feet, I'm a flatlander.

Nan-
try the same setup I told tack to use in the above post if you have $100 to spend on weights & spring for primary & delrins for your secondary... Primary is so easy to work on, once you ride & test you can change your rivots in all three weights where you want and be back on the mtn testing in 15 minutes.. once you figure it out it will be no big deal to change & play with right setup in primary clutch... Secondary is a little tricky, you need the clutch clamp tool to press the seconday back together once you change your helix, spring, or add delrin washers...

Just got back from two days in Canada, just under 300 miles and no change yet. Will put on a few more miles then start with clutching. Thanks to all who have posted. Dino

A buddy I know with 08 D8 had rpm issues and low track speed and after all the updates it was still there, turned out to be springs - he replaced primary and secondary springs and he was good to go. He had this problem last season too, when the sled was basically only a year old... if I recall, he said it had the problem since new. Just for a baseline I would change the springs and add a couple delrin washers, then go from there (which is basically stock with delrins). I was tempted to try aksnowrider(?)'s setup here in the forums, but my D8 was set up by tri-city polaris and seems to work pretty good and I don't have to spend money on a helix weights or springs... until I pipe it anyway. :D
