2010-2011 Kakwa Snow Conditions

All the rules are the same as last year. Kakwa BC opens Dec 1st, and the groomer can't groom in BC til there is atleast 1meter of snow at the border. I don't know why people have issues remembering these simple rules every year?

I'm drivin down tomorrow to check on camp too, then ride sat and/or sun.

Hey I just wanted to know if anybody has been checking the snow depths in Red deer falls area, good enough for a ride yet?

not looking good so far! this winter is begining to blow. was out at bullmoose last sunday and we did find some good pow but it was pretty grim until the nice find.

What ever, this is just what he was told. He passed it on. It has nothing to do with his ego or being paranoid. Good to know it's open.

Was in from the 27-30th from the B.C. side. Good fresh snow in the box canyon and on flattop but still lots of rocks. Mainly played in the trees cause it was snowing hard on tuesday. Stopped at the lake cabin and it was a mess, CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELFS... or were going to lose that nice cabin.

Hey Guys i'm planning on heading out to kakwa for the weekend coming up. just wondering about avalanche conditions with all this fresh powder wwe've been getiing and its suppose to keep snowing all week.
Let me know whatcha all think
Thanks Russ

Was just out yesterday , minus 31 at staging area -5 at cabin and a ridiculous
Amount of snow. Don,t know about avalanche potential but we just played down low and it was awesome. We had to give up going down river because one of the sleds could not handle the snow. Groomed to the lake now as well.

JUst beh prepared for drive in past 114 km has not been graded for awhile. 40 km/h average speed. Have fun

anybody know where I can get my gp sled club membership? I normally go to the agm and buy it there but was unable to and didn't have a sled up till now...

KAKWA GROOMER PROGRAM

************** UPDATE ****************

There is 120 ish camps set up and so far we have had 36 camp donations to help out the groomer program. We are just hoping that we can convince everyone to donate to help the program as it benefits us all. If you haven't donated yet please contact Len Freisz tell him your camp permit number as he has mapped it all out and is keeping records of all camps that have donated.

Thanks and safe sledding!!!!

Wow

You have the cash to own the camp , haul it in, support multiple users for the year to borrow facilities. WTF. Support the groomer. Very simple solution, due away with volunteer cash, pay up front for camp owners and owners collect from your buddies. Just like a night at the Hilton. You don,t sleep there for free. I realize that camp owners are not the only ones that sled here but I know if you have a shack out there you are using trails. I do not want this privilege taken away. Kakwa sucks without that groomed trail in. As for day use I have not seen anybody checking for passes yet. There are some really easy solutions for groomer support. Be honest and pay.

Hope this gets better. With our camp by just asking a couple fellows that come out and sled and stay. We asked for the 200 apiece to help out and was done.
One camp 1000.00 pretty easy. Come on campers if we can do it so can alot of others.
Thanks to all that have helped out so far and to Len for getting this going.

went out this weekend, rode saturday and did the field part of AST1 training with Zac's tracks sunday. Alpine avy conditions are pretty unstable, we called it high. The chutes above the box in babette cleaned out in a deep slab, the first chute on babette lake slid clean to the rocks and ran out probably 1/3 of the way across the lake. Also a small slide on the wall. The two bigger ones must have went last week sometime but the small one slid saturday while we were there sometime. Snow was good though, probably a foot and a half of fresh at the tree line. Made for good playing! Does anyone know how to get a hold of Lori? My buddy can't get to his camp and there's one more further down the trail in bacardi flats that isn't accessible either... Not sure if he just didn't know they were there of if there is another reason. Also CLEAN UP YOUR CRAP! Had to stop in the middle of kakwa lake in a near white out to pick up somebodies grenaded belt. If I catch somebody doing something like that I'm going to choke them with their own belt! Smarten up b4 we lose our area!

rode sat-sun-mon this weekend. Good snow on eastern slopes but everything on the west slopes was wind blown badly. Saw far less avalanche activity, only saw one small point release and evidence of one really small slab avalanche.

Saw that there were no tracks going up to coal ridge, is that area closed now?
