2009 ski doo xp summit x 800 fuel gauge?

Hey guys, my brother just recently picked up an 09 summit x 800 with 54 miles on it and the fuel gauge doesnt show nothing.. what could be the problem? Thanks!

I have one of these and i'll bet it's the fuse behind the airbox! It's a real common thing and real easy to change.

Either that, or he only has 3/4 of a tank left. Ha ha! They are kind of stupid that way.

The sending unit needs to be removed and cleaned. Took mine out due to the common erratic fuel level reading. Cleaned the contact area about 6 times with Electical contact cleaner, and presto. No more erratic reading. Prior when hooked up to my dvom i had all kinds of crazy readings (has a bar graph also). cleaned it up, and smooth transition both directions.

Check the fuse first. But its a pretty easy job and sure makes life alot nicer knowing how much gas you actually have.

Where is that fuse you are talking about?

Open clutch side panel or remove.
Remove belt guard.
There are two tabs that connect the front air box and the carb air box rotate them. They should separate.
Slide carb air box out.
Fuse holder is tight against the tank, old style glass fuse.
It is a small bugger so you may have to test for continuity.

Is the fuel sender unit just pushed through the rubber grommet? Can it be pry out easily? I have the same problem.

I did this to my sled and today was the first time my fuel gauge has worked correctly for two years. I'm going to pull it back out and bend the float arm down slightly, should make it read right when its full. Thanks for the tip!

Try running some Techron fuel additive in the tank, 10 oz. to a full tank. Sulfur from fuel gets on the card that the gage rides up and down on, and the gage will not register. I added the techron , and only run a top tier fuel (Chevron)and after 2 rides my gage is working again.

Good info on this thread, guys! Just fired my sled up for the first time today (awesome winter here in Minnesota) and same deal, fuel light on, gauge shows empty, and the tank is full. I found the fuse and sure as sh!t, it's shot. Gonna get a new one in the morning and hopefully the problem is solved. Then leaving for Cooke on Saturday, ride it for a week and then I could prolly go right ahead and fog it again. Anyways thanks for the info, saved me some head scratching.
