Primary clutch split yesterday, I know I'll have to replace the clutch and bolt and have the remainder removed somehow. I'll likely take it to Polaris for evaluation in the next few days. Thought I would ask snowest members if they have seen this before and for any help in advance.

Thank you

Yep, that's the clutch bolt broke off and the entire primary clutch sheared in half where the belt sits. Unbelievable that Polaris would develop a clutch this poor in design or manufacture and put it out to the public. I too may be looking to swap to Doo or Arctic Cat.

You will fair no better with either of those options. The portion with the numbers etched into it is the crank snout. The rest is the clutch hub. The problem stems from three things, Polaris increasing the crank stub end to 32mm from the classic 30mm in the mid 2000's which resulted in a decrease in the clutch hub wall thickness. Which is aggravated by over torquing the clutch and imballance in the primary. Running the belt until it grenades can also shock load the clutch enough to start this type of fracturing to occur.

It looks like the crank stub may have been damaged where it is discolored blue, there looks to be burrs to the exposed edge there at least. They may be minor enough to be deburred and smoothed but one should check crank run out before any decision is made, as this will determine what course of action needs to be taken.
