2009 M8 owners

I am thinking about picking up a New 2009 M8 tomorrow (153" sno pro)
How have they been holding up for you guys.
How many miles you put on yours?
Any problems with yours?
Any thing i should do to it before i ride?

I seen the post about "2009 Diamond Drive Bearing Failure"
Should i be worried about this?

Thanks for any info

hey

The 09 m series are awsome, and my 09 hcr is the best sled I'v ever owned. Change that bearing for sure, mine was crap at 430 miles. I'm running slp pipe kit,slp intake, 48/36 helix, rock rollers, amp riser and gauge cage, powderhound skis, revalved rear float, added pressure in front track zero shock, shock tower vents, 6 added vents in nose area, bdx anit-slop steering support, bdx anti-stab,huh, thats it. The pipe kit and helix really woke it up, and it just keeps pulling hard. The stock skis are junk. The zippers on the boss seat are crap, and half mine don't work, and the buttons that hold the seat to the tunnel are crap to. The m-series respond right away to body movement, and are incredible in the trees and sidehilling. I'v had no problems really for the first 500 miles, and look forward to another great winter on her.

I put a turbo on mine from day one put 1200 miles on it and never had a problem. dad has a stock one he has 800 miles on his and still original belt!

Have about 400-something miles on mine.

Haven't opened up my DD yet to check that bearing, but I'm getting tempted to hearing how many other 400-milers are finding it bad.

The buttons on the boss seat were replaced under warranty. I'm otherwise a fan of the boss seat.

The first thing I would add is frog skinz type things to the vents on the nose of the sled (otherwise the nose will pack full of snow and you won't be able to open the hood if freezes. Makes adding oil the next day tricky.)

I have the ski stance narrowed up, but I might widen it to try to get some better handling out of it, too cheap to get skis. There is a bit of room to improve the handling and suspension, see the other threads (some are in the sticky at the top of this forum) for more info in tuning them.

The adjustable handlebars are great. I usually run with them one or two from the top setting. When sitting down blasting down a smooth trail up the hill, it's great to set them down low though.

Otherwise she runs good!

I have 1000+ on mine, went through a belt, but that is all. Great sled love mine, no regrets. Also just did the slp pipe and 36/40 helix, cant wait to climb with it. You wont be sorry!

Mines awesome other than the DD bearing. Toast at 470 miles.

Did have to tweak the return spring on the oil pump a bit bc it was sticking. No big deal.

Put about 1,600 miles on mine last year, blew a belt at 1,200 miles same problems as above with the Boss seat, broke both hood latch tips but checked the dd bearing this fall and it looked fine. Put a SLP pipe kit, intake and clutch kit on it this fall. Just waiting for more snow to get it dialed in. Best sled I ever owned.

Just picked up a '09 HCR and still have 0 miles on it. I have added Powder Pros, MBRP can, Frog Skinz mid hood and nose vents, ice scratchers, rock rollers, shift assist, replaced DD bearing (easy 1 hr. job), and cutler 70g-80g weights. I'm sure it will get even more goodies before I can ride it; I figure if I can't spend money on gas, I'll spend it on other stuff. Just got our first couple of inches of snow that stayed last night. I'm coming off a '06 CF7, so I hope i will be as impressed as the rest of you guys.

Your gonna love it! Put 2100 miles on mine last season. MBRP can, Boss Seat, Amp guage cage & riser, Frog Skinz, Flyscreen, SnoBunjie Lefty and some more done to it. All and it's been awesome. Only thing that hasn't been mentioned above is I've seen a more than a few melted oil cans. The threads under the oil cap seem to be the usual culprit, but nothing some heat tape can't stop. So far only gone through one belt, but i'm pretty anal about keeping things cleaned and alligned. Good luck, hope you enjoy the new sled!

Probably close to 1500 miles or so on mine last season. The thing does work awesome, but havent been so lucky with belts as you boys apparently. It'll pull the cord out of a belt in 50 miles. First cord came out at 30 miles, second 115, and the third one not long after that. Got tired of switching them out, so i just cut the cord back and run it. Not my preferred choice, but cant afford 2 belts a ride. Easy trail riding in the early season and the belts got broke in. Dealer checked it over, say its alright. Im always cleaning my sheaves and belt, vented, etc. This year if i can afford, ill gear it down, and go from there. Oil pump sticks like everyone elses, goofy adjustable post bends easy, snow flap broke off at 380 miles, Oh and the oil resi tank as also mentioned above, also almost forgot, primary spring broke due to lame spring cup clearance. It does work well tho. Oh, buddy bought the identical sled, one serial number off, identical problems, but he also loves his.

From the Aaen clutch tuning handbook,

Pulling cords on a belt is from one of the following:
-Incorrect Alignment
-Improper Installation (deflection)
-Engagement speed to high.

Hope that helps!

I do appreciate that, but the alignment has been checked and rechecked, deflection has always been kept where it should be, and engagement is reasonable. Stock clutching, no better no worse with cutler adjustables.
I am thinking of trying that added motor mount that the 1000 boys are talking about, if its an option, i haven't looked if the mounting provisions are their yet. My 7 was nice on belts, but it did take getting rid of the 05 soft mounts for the stiffer ones.

GOt 400 miles on mine the end of last year. great sled stock. I also installed SLP pipe setup this summer and a few other things. want to get out and try it to see how the clutching is. I left the clutching stock just added rock rollers and secondary bearing and lightened the weights 3 grams

I have been very happy with mine, I have taken it places no god fearing 153" owner belonged.

Added the SLP full set this year, had to change a bunch of clutching but I thinks its ready

700 on mine no problems. 100 on slp pipe can setup. belt looks like new runs like a sob and goes where I point it. I couldn't be happier. Oh have broke the two plastic hood pins but AC warrantied those!

I love mine too and higly recommend this sled to others.

I checked my clutch alignment and the clutches are considerably off yet I never had one belt issue last year. Now, I'm a little spooked to align them for fear of starting a belt issue.

Best sled of our bunch

It's my wife's sled. I took it to IP last Jan. because of scary avy. danger. I left my 1000 mod. King Cat climber home. Except for a turbo sled, it was the sled to beat. It did just get beat by a M-1000 with a Powder Claw. XP's and Dragons fell way short. Great sled. Much better than an '08 M-8.

I have a 09 HCR and it is by far the best sled i have ever owned. I have had no problems what so ever with it, i found the shift assist, rock rollers, Y pipe and 4" cup on the intake woke it up alot. Great reliable sled pull and go.:beer;
