2009 M8 Diamond Drive Teardown

?

What type of bearing do you think the dealer would replace it with? The same chinese one that failed or could you demand somthing better? I would hate to fix it only to have it fail agian in 3-400 miles. I have about 700 miles on mine and this has me a little concerned. I'll have to check it out.

I have the double bearing from bdx and could replace it myself as far as I have gotten into the teardown. I want to take it to Arctic Cat and see what they plan to do. If their fix does not seem adequate, I will change the bearing myself I guess.
Bad news is, I called my local dealer and they have never had to change one yet......

with material running through everything you should get a replacement, take the shavings to them and demand it.

When you say replacement, are you talking about the entire diamond drive, or just the bearing? I think they would do the bearing, I bet they would balk at replacing the diamond drive. Bad thing is, I have already cleaned out the case and everything looks good, gears, housing, etc.

How hard is it to get that bearing off the shaft? Does it slide right off or do you need something special to get it off?

I haven't read about anyone reporting this issue on a 2009 M1000 but, I would think 09 M1000 owners too should be checking their Diamond Drives, right?

How much do you want to bet the M1000 got the 5203 bearing from the factory. I bet thats why there is a spacer behind the bearing on the M8.

Here is a picture of the damaged bearing. Enjoy!
It is not a very good picture, but you can see that almost half of the ball bearings are missing. Oh, one more thing. That was once a sealed bearing on both sides!
