2009 M1000 Sno Pro - Still king of the mountain?

The 2009 M8 has certainly gotten great reviews.

It seems to be the sled everyone wants to own.

If the 2009 M8 is so fantastic, why is it that the 2009 M1000 doesn't seem to get anywhere near as many, or as good reviews?

The M1000 bennefited from the same weight loss as the M8, the same Power Claw track, the same telescoping handlebars, etc.

Is there still a niche in the market for a 2009 M1000 when the 2009 M8 seems to be so stellar?

Love the power of my new 1000 but even with the 09 weight loss and the
30lbs extra I removed I still like tossing around my wifes M-8 better. The more I play w/ chassis setup the better it gets though.

i would say the M8 has a better rep for reliability, my buddies M1000 has gone through 2 motors in less than 1,500 miles. the infamous bog doesn't help. i don't own both but can ride either i want, would only trade the M8 for the big climbs. everywhere else i'd rather ride the 8...

I've been going back and forth this year between riding a modded 09 M8 and a modded 08 M1000. Both are fun sled but suprisingly I prefer the M1000. When you add in the weight of oil, gas and rider, 30/lbs of weight difference between the two sleds doesn't make near as much difference as 30 horse power. But then again I think that day-in/day-out across a broad range of snow conditions that the Challenger Extreme is still a better track than the Powerclaw, so what do I know.

I've heard the M1000 is the sled to have when there is no chance to get a run at a hill. When you have to shoot up a hill from a dead stop the meaty torque curve of the 1000 is a real advantage.

The M8 sounds to be more of a technical tree sled (boondocker) than the M1000.

M1000 Sno Pro 162" LE weighs 486 lbs.
Makes 162 hp
Spend $630.00 and add an SLP single pipe alone and a fuel controller for $418and you save 16 lbs and add 25.2 hp so spent $1048 and you're at
470 lbs and 192.8 hp

M8 Sno Pro 153" LE weighs 456 lbs.
Makes 142-148 (depends on who you ask)
Spend $2,055 and add the SLP performance edition package and you save 8 lbs and adds 25 hp so you're at
448 lbs and 170 hp

But you're on a 153" sled if you have the M8 LE. Add the weight to make it a 162" and you're at 450 lbs but, they don't make a M8 162" LE so you had to spend the $500+ on the Boss seat and $100+ for the titanium clutch spring to be at 450 lbs.

The XP in a 154" has a claimed dry weight of 439 lbs.
The XP 163" has a claimed dry weight of 444 lbs.

So you are within 6 lbs of a XP 163" X but, with a reliable engine.

The M8 LE (I can't seem to find the retail price) is roughly $11,199 to $11,499
The M1000 LE look like it retails at $13,099 (Ouch)

Based on the fact that 2009 M8s are selling like hot cakes (everyone and their dog seems to want one) and the 2009 M1000 are not, maybe a guy could pick up a M1000 LE (if there are any left at dealers) for a smokin deal?

Enough blubbering.......................

We have 2 m1000's, 2008 and 2009 both sp and 2 M8's 2008 and 2009sp's in our family and I am on a 2009 m1200 sp. In the really tight trees I like the M8, but hands down my 1200 which is lighter than all of them I would not trade for anything. It walks all over everything except the turbo and that is the next investment.:D:D

Wow, what a sled that must be!

How big of a factor is rider weight?

I'm 5'10" and weigh 170 lbs. without gear.

Is the M8 more geared toward the under 200 lb. crowd?

I sure need to ride these sleds............................

It's all about setup...

We have an M1K and an M8 in the house - I almost traded in my M1 for a new M8 due to the lighter "feel". Some minor suspension mods, and I won't trade the M1 for anything now. As far as the highmark goes - unless it has a turbo on it, it likely won't beat the M1 - in any snow condition.

Suspension tweaking....

Your the second person to mention that the suspension set up on the M1000 made a big difference...? Can you tell us what you've changed and how it made the difference?

Dads 09 m1000 LE got an egt, y pipe, and boondocker box first thing so I cannot comment on stock but I think it is bog free after a few adjustments on the box.

Why M8T instead of M10T? Reports I read on here say the M10Ts on low boost and pump gas run with or beat the M8T race kits.
