I am a novice rider that is looking at moving from a M7 162 to a HCR 153 we are not huge hill climbers but do like to play and have fun. The majority of our riding is boondocking and trails would this be a good sled or am I better off looking for a M8? Thanks

hey

The hcr dosen't do real good in the trees at slow speed, due to harder durometer track, and wider stance. As long as you keep it pinned, it will go anywhere, but slow boondocking is a pain. It sidehills fantastic, and it climbs like a monster. The track will bite into the snow, the m8 stays on top. Its a very noticable difference with harder track in fluff for sure, and you just have zig zag your lines rather than going straight up. Ride them both, and you will see. Its gets through the bumps great for a 153. I love mine and wouldn't want an m8 just because I'm used to the hcr.

Get the HCR..............you;ll adapt in about 30 min. and love eternity!!!

if you ride the trees i would say the wider stance would be a major hinderence, i have enough problems getting my stock width front end through some of the places we go. sometimes have to pull up on one ski just to fit through...

Totally disagree with the wider stance being bad for trees. My converted crossfire with a 162 will take me anywhere I want to go, and that includes the tightest trees you can ride.

I think you better qualify your statement. Tightest trees "you can ride". You will have to keep your speed up pretty good to follow a narrower skied sled through the trees! MY old KK is 40" ski stance and I can't get between trees that the old summits will go. They're tough to pull out when they are wedged in there too!

Well let me put it to you this way. I have never had a problem following my buddies M8 through the trees, never had the sled stuck between two trees. It's all about picking your lines. I do have the ski stance set to the narrowest setting and it's still wider than the m-series. I have also bounced off a few trees or pulled the sled to one side to make it though tight spots. You will have to do this with any sled when riding the tight trees. So for me it really has not been a issue, yet.

I would go with the HCR, it is by far the best sled i have owned!! I have had other M8's but the HCR is awesome so effortless to handle and awesome for boondocking, sidehilling is very effortless it just leans right over. I had it through the trees at revy this year and it was great i thought made it places where my old 07 M8 wouldn't go!!:D:beer;

If your looking for the better sled on the trail it is definetly the hcr with the wider stance. I have a crossfire with the wider ski stance and it leans over easy and i have no problems in the trees.

1- You will not notice a difference in the fluff with the 90 duro track. It floats just as well. You will however notice a difference on the hardpack when you hook up and pass your buddies. You will also crap your pants at least once coming down a hill way to fast.

2- Tree riding is a non issue. You can creep through the trees with this sled. and you can follow any other sled through the trees. I love this sled in the trees.

3- this sled is more stable on the trail than the regular m8.

4- You will not regret it one bit.

1650 miles of smiles on my HCR :D
