2009 Dragon 800 low RPM issue

Hey guys, just got back from a ride in Canada and while I was there I was only noticing that my sled was only pulling about 7600-7700 rpm. I have about 800 miles on the sled and still running my original belt. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Did you have your clutching set up for riding at a different elevation than at home? When was the last time you serviced your clutches? They need to be cleaned, springs replaced, weights replaced, etc. Your original belt could also play into the picture if it is worn.

I am ashamed to say I have never serviced my clutches but I plan on tearing them apart this week for a thorough cleaning. I was just hoping to see if anyone had any thoughts or opinions about my problem. Still kind of new to the sled world so I'm still learning proper maintenance to keep my sled reliable.

My RPM's slowly dropped as my belt was about to let go. definitely check your belt and clutches. If cleaning your clutches doesn't help, I would try a different belt.

The obvious issue would be what clutch weights are you running and at what elevations are you riding? You need to run lighter weights at higher elevation.

It still has the stock 10-62 weights and I just pulled the clutches and clean them and I also bought a new belt so we will see if that does the trick on Saturday!

Change spring in primary clutch, check compression. Have the same problem with mine assault 09. Went from 7800rpm to 8050-8100 by changing the spring in primary clutch. But after checking the compression I found that I have low compression, only 100-105 psi.

Thanks for your input man. That was going to be my next thing to try. How did you fix your low compression problem?

MTNTK's fix kit. I'll bet that is what is going on, excessive piston to cylinder clearance.

I just had this issue on my dragon 800 thought it was cluthching cleaned and changed belt. Still did the same thing. Was chasing this issue for awhile finally figured out it was a tear in my PTO side exhaust valve bellow. I'm changing right now. I hope that fixes it. I'm pretty sure that is my issue

K look at plastic cap on the exhaust valve. I recently had the same thing happen. If there's oil on the plastic cap then you know the bellow is ripped. A simple inspection of it is al it takes. You don't have to rip it apart although not that hard
