2009 d8 rpms

has anyone figured out how to get the rpms where they need to be:::i have a slp can,venting, and some of rons weights, i hit 8300 on hard trail once then it would run 8050-8100 on the trail, we got into real good snow and the most it would pull was 7900 on a long pull in deep snow

I have had, and am having the same issue. Sled runs better than it used to, but not up to its capabilites.
Elevation is between 6500 and 9500 feet, with most riding done between 7500-8500
My setup right now is
09 Dragon 800
SLP single pipe and can
SLP air intake
Stock 10-62 weights
SLP blue pink primary
stock secondary
stock helix

I can pull about 8000 rpms on the flats through about 10 inches of fresh snow. RPM's drop to around 7200-7500 when put on an incline.

I am going to try the following and will post my results:
SLP MTX 68 gram weights no rivets
60/40/.36 Helix
SLP Green Pink primary
Stock secondary with two delrin washers

Crossing my fingers and hoping it works. My sled has the January reflash as well.

Another thing that comes to mind when people aren't pulling proper RPM is whether or not the exhaust valves are opening all the way. The possibility is there that at higher altitude the exhaust spring can be too stiff and not open properly. Higher altitude....less air....less compression....less exhaust pressure. Just a thought.
I prefer to gear down as well. You will get varying opinions on this, but it has always worked for me. You will see that mentioned quite often in that clutching thread too.
Proper fueling of the motor can be an issue as well. The stock mapping seems to be rich on top end. Even with the ECU compensation for altitude and temp, this becomes more critical the higher you go. Too much fuel with even less air can cause poor running. Check out the increasing your IQ sticky for some threads on fuel controllers as well.
These are just some of my initial thoughts. :crazy:
 
poor rpms

i thought about the exhaust valves also the solenoid that is connected, going to try to plug the lines. should a guy just by the controller my plugs are looking pretty good,also i did gear it down 19-42
 
my d8 is actually doing the exact same thing as yours and I went through the clutch this summer and got the new motor in it also. What my dealer said is that the dyno report on the 2010 800's is between 8000-8150 pegged and when under a load it will drop to low to mid 7000's. Hope this helps a little.

Mine runs at 8350 and pulls way harder on the hill in the deep stuff then it did at 8100..

Rpm's shouldn't be dropping like that.
