2009-10 Irwin Report

the snow is here 37 inches on the stick at the lodge (IBG is good for something)

We will be track packing this week starting thursday and again sunday so if your out watch for the cat it will be on the trails

We plane to cut splains and ohio creek weather permitting

I saw the original freak over in the utah section, love the original Mtndoo user name, no one will expect who it is :beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:D

Digger is out in the BR2K now

We started to pull the drag today, Kebler pass road to the "y" and the road to lake Irwin all should be groomed. The spillway at the lake is still open but should be filled in and the route to rolling hills groomed by the end of the week as well as old kebler pass

Digger was out to lost lake Saturday, the snow was really thin still only 18-36" (36" drifts not on the flat). Not to mention 300 head of elk on the road between lost lake and horse ranch park. It will take a few more dumps before we can get the cat and drag all the way over to the Erickson springs hopefully before christmas.

Sunday Digger and I will open Splains from the west. the eastern route will remain closed along with Ohio pass until avalanche conditions improve.

5-6 ft on the level in most places

Keep an eye out for the cat on the trails Sunday mid afternoon as we will be opening up splains gulch from the west

Last year turbo ripped one of the mirrors off the BR2K coming out of there so we will be "pruning" the trail as well as "grooming"

Ohio Pass was cut open yesterday??

Phil is a gambling man with avy danger still high

Anyway to overlay the wilderness boundries, there's plenty of areas that get real close.

Be nice to whip out one map and show Mike the forest nazi he's wrong !

looks nice

Only problem with that is the map isn't standard forestery issues

Their maps aren't even right, I will do it but don't expect to win any arguments with natzi

you'd have a better chase of surviving an avalanche than win with mike

New map with wilderness

KEBLERPASS2copy.jpg

The trail system is 90 percent track packed 80% groomed

not enough snow in splains to fill in the tank traps and drag the drag through just yet

Digger even made it to erikson springs

Only thing left is to track up the lost lake spur

We need more snow!

Enjoy the map, we are selling add space on the other side prices fourth coming

I made it back only got lost and almost stuck once! :face-icon-small-blu

6in of new snow at the trial head

10-12 in at lake Irwin

Splains Gulch (the scence of the almost stick) had 2-3ftof snow and near whiteout conditions towards the Ohio creek side of Splains gulch.

There is a hole of sorts somewhere west of the Lilly lake (someone will get out and check it out to make sure it isn't deadly) I had decent visibility through the lower meadow and passed the lake but from there I got lost without a point of reference and 3ft of fresh pow and the snow gods dumping like a motha I was driving blind, I found the tree line but wasn't anywhere near where I needed to be and the cat decided to sink as I made a U'eeee

Near as I can tell it is still snowing up there upon return to town it wasn't snowing and I could see clear skies, the bulk of this last storm looks to have sat on Splians gulch and DUMPED!

The Kebler Pass Area got hammered

snow squalls lifted Sunday and the riding should be very good for the next 5-7 days

all of wind so some areas that had 3ft might only have 2 and other much more

enjoy it will take the rest of the week to tidy things up watch for the cat and remember pass everyone with care

P.S. 65mph is not care

Kebler Pass is getting hammered

Hood deep pow in splains gulch, Old Kebler and the Horse Ranch Park areas

Ave Danger is HIGH former "town council dude" has been bringing down avalanches with charges in the Robinson basin area be aware those numb nuts could set off a charge above you if you enter the basin from the bottom. or drop in from the top (down the chute)

They have roped the bottom off but it is still open to the public although enter (at your own risk)

Things are shaping up well for the forum ride

With all the fresh snow in the last 3-5 days we haven't been able to pull the drag around.

Ohio Pass is snowed in and will be opened back up avalanche conditions permitting on Friday along with Splains Gulch

The remaining trails were track packed Monday and again last night
