I have tried twice now to run my XP without the ring gear. Yes it is more responsive but the clutch is way too noisy without the gear. Mostly at engagement it rings and rattles. This clutch has new bushings and only does it without the gear.

If you are concerned about a lil rattlin then by all means leave the flywheel weight on there. However, its a shade over a pound (if I remember correctly) of rotating mass held too far outside the center line of the crankshaft for me to waste time running it. JMO

Mine has all brand new parts and rattles with the ring on...was really bad due to a low idle turned up my idle and now it's better, but not sure what it rattling in my clutch.

Check your brake rotor cover bolts. Mine came loose and it sounded like clutch vibration at idle. Also, the '08 shop manual says that the replacement primary bushings may not work as well as original equipment. All of mine have been replaced and it still works great, but I'm guessing it's a bit sloppier of a fit, which will likely lead to quicker wear.
