I have a stock 2008 700 RMK. Does anyone know at what rpm this motor make its peak HP and what peak rpm is. I thought I read 7950 rpm one time for hp and 8250 for peak rmp. I can get about 7900 rpm. I put new fuel filter in,fuel pressure is 58psi load or not,new primary spring, pulled both clutches apart, cleaned valves+bellows, pinched off valve hose no change, new 3211115 belt. Still can't get above 8000 rpm. That is at sea level with 10-64s. At 9500ft same thing. Went all way down to 10-54s. Not much change. Sled runs good other than can't get Rs up. Is this all I am going to get out of stocker. Wonder what others are getting.
Thanks.

I have an 08' D7 as well and just had it out on a lake on the weekend. Wide open i was getting 8100rpm. Thats at about 2800' and temp was 32F
I have an SLP can and THATS it.
I remember getting around 7900 RPM at about 6500' couple months ago when i checked. It was about 27F for temp.

I have never had trouble with my D7

Hope that helps baseline you

I can only get around 7900-8000 with my 09 700 at 2000' with 10-66. I was able to get 8200 RPM at 9000' though with 10-58s. It seems like alot of people have issues with getting these motors to spin over 8000RPMs.

Another thing to consider is track speed and gearing. Assuming a 155" you should be able to achieve mid 40's for track speed on a pull in the pow. The gearing will of course depend on the riding conditions/terrain your in. Our D7 is geared 19/43 with MTX 10-62 (no added rivets) and we are getting 8200-8350 with 45-48 mph track speeds in pow at 4500-8000 ft.

Another trick is to put a magic marker line from the hub of your primary to the top of the sheave. Take it on a few runs and see how far up the sheave the belt wore the marker line off to determine if your getting full clutch travel or not.

Good luck. EW

PC-3 time

07 D7, runs 8150-8200 now, used to barely pull 8000 R.P.M.

8150-8200 r.p.m. is where you want to be at

1) Check your engine /clutch mis-alignment as outlined in TECH TIPS THREAD inside INCREASING YOUR IQ at the top of this section. My engine had too much "twist"

2) What do your plugs and piston wash look like?????

My sled used to be PIG RICH, installed the PC-3 With DYNOTECH Jim's map, 5-10% LEAN on top, first time now have cardboard brown plugs

Hope this helps

check your exhaust valve bellows for small hole in it, brothers and mine (08 700 rmk & dragon) did this same thing around 1800 miles, I just got home yesterday from a ride that mine started running lower rpm's (7700-7800)max and just didn't feel like it was running right on top end. pulled bellows cover and sure enough had a small hole in left bellows.
good luck.

Change out your stock 20/41 gears to 19/42 and it will help. You will lose 6mph on the top end, but you gain some revs and a wallop of torque. Only costs you $35/ gear and a change of chaincase oil (11 oz). The only thing you must be careful with on the 08's is getting that pos plastic chaincase cover to seal up right.

I am running at 10,000-11,000 feet and am pulling 8350 with 10-56 belly busters, black/purple springs, and a Carl's Cycle helix. These sleds, in my opinion, pull best right around 8000.

08 RMK Dragon,155 rpm

I had no problem getting 8200 consistantly out of mine. I am in western Wyoming,Alpine 7-9000 average altitude here where we ride. I have SLP pipe, can and clutch kit, dont remember which kit I have but SLP will send you the right stuff for the info you send them. I also have the SLP intake and hot air elimination kits. All of that being said right now I have zero rpm, catasrophic blow up last weekend, piston took out cylinder and that all fell in the crank and took it and the case out. 700's do blow-up contrary to what you have heard.New motor on the way from Polaris out of my pocket. Pretty mad they won't step up. All you guys running 700's I recommend checking your top ends at about 1500 miles,I didnt make it to 2000. Change your pistons before they break into pieces. Rode the horse today, never got stuck:face-icon-small-fro

MID RANGE LEAN CONDITION

Wyoming Dragon,

Do you have a fuel controller on your sled??

My DRAGON 700 and others are DANGEROUSLY LEAN in the mid-range in the mid-range, I'm 7%-10% RICHER with the PC-3 in the 5000 R.P.M. AND UP Range @ Part throttle

Fuel Controller

No controller on it. This sled has always just ran great. I also did not mention that the sled was stolen in October before we had any snow and it over 100 miles were put on it grass draggin and riding on a very limited amount of snow. I have no doubt this is why it failed. I had to replace the track, skis, hifax, windshield, seat. I cant wait to get the little pr!ck in court to get restitution started. He is going to have a $15,000 08 dragon and I am going to have a new sno pro or something else. I am going to have some breakin on the new engine before I can post how it is new.I am gone to Vegas next weekend so I am hoping to be breaking in first week of march. Will post back in a couple weeks how the new engine tachs out

why would u post that u need to check your top end on 700's, implying they r questionable when u know full well that it failed from being broken in by a guy who stole it?

top ends

All I am saying is what I have found out talking to dealers and mechanics is the top end of the 700's usually take out a lot more than a piston or cylinder when they go. They see VERY few failures but they are usually major. If you look at all of the complaints on the threads with 700 failures they are usually bad failures. My failure is premature because of abuse. If I had big doubts in the engine I would not have laid down the cash for a new motor.I would have put a rebuilt in and traded the machine. I have a 2007 that is great but I guarantee the top is getting looked at at at 1500 miles. New top 500.00 new motor 4500.00.Easy choice. There is a guy on here with 6800 miles on his and no problems so who knows. I am not bashing the one of the best motors Polaris ever built.
