2008 Ford V10 ?

Ok so fule prices are going up and I am thinking that maybe the V10 might be the way to go. I have heard that ford put a 30 valve motor in in 2005 and that is about all I know. I was wondering who runs these on here and what they think. Thanks.

Had one in a '03 Excursion & really liked it.
Pulled a 4 place enclosed really well at 8 mpg @ 75-80 mph
Empty 12 mpg @ 75 mph, 14 mpg @ 60 mph
I've heard better numbers, but I don't believe them.

Good torque for a gasser!

ran one in a 1t service truck, weighed 13310 lbs with a full load of fuel, got 8 mpg with a 30 mph tail wind going off a cliff, to get it to road speed you would hold it at 8000 rpm and the fastest thing going would be the fuel gauge, then at 112,000 miles it seized the number one piston, funny thing was of the truck load of pickups delivered half of them did the same thing??
don't know if that was just a fluke or if that happens to them alot? you would get better mileage and pull about the same with the 5.4 imo , they must be good motors my brother has right at 500,000 miles on his fedex van, only major component replaced was the timing chain, gears, tensioner assembly.

I've never heard a good thing from anyone who has a Ford V10.

From what I hear, for as gutless as they are they should get a lot better miledge than they do, but Ford small block motors of late are kinda notorious for being gutless ...at least virtually every single 4.6 and 5.4 that I've driven have been. I haven't ever pulled a trailer with one, but even as crappy as my GM 5.3L was at towing it would hold gears and not downshift on hills the Ford 5.4, with supposedly more power down low, was dropping gears and revving on.

I don't know, personally if you want a big gas motor try to find an 05,06,07 GM 8.1L with low miles.

Way better motor than a Ford small block with 2 extra cylinders bolted on :)

I would take a Suburban with a 8.1 over the X with the 10, but would take the X with the 10 over a Sub with a 6.0 any day!

I just picked up my new work truck, 08 F-350 SRW crew cab with the V10 and so far I like it. I'm not hauling anything yet though. Power is decent, as far as milage the display says 19 litres/100 Km. Haven't had a chance to hand calculate it yet.

All of us non-metrics are getting a headache trying to do the conversion!:p

had a suburban with 8.1..friend had a ford with the v-10..the 8.1 will outpull it hands down and get better fuel economy..the 8.1 is king of gas motors.right now for pulling IMHO...

I have sold a few lately have had 6.4s traded in on the gassers. V10 has ballzz! the 3 valve is a decent motor! but spend the money on an AFE dry intake setup and free the exhaust up best you can cat back! pays huge dividends!

Guys we are being Fleeced by the EPA point Blank!!!! O8 Emissions cuts the milage of everything by 1/2 on a whole, and only cuts the Particulates by maybe 25 to 30% !!!! hello the same ammount of work produces more polution at twice the energy consumption not to mention the extra refinement of the fuels!!!

!

Good info thanks guys. Maybe I should think soe more. I know the 8.1 is a good motor but it is also a chev and I am partial to ford. I have my local dealer down to 28 on a crew cab white xlt with a six speed I think that is a good deal?
